I traded in my 2017 RAV4 yesterday. It averaged about 20-22mpg. I was expecting my new Tacoma to be around 18. Imagine my surprise when I checked my average after putting on 300 miles today in the backroads of New England...tank average 24.1. Maybe all the hills like the 2 extra cylinders more... Hope the MPG lasts it was a pleasant surprise.

something here doesn't sound correct. Especially in the winter...

I rented a rav4 last year to go from ct to maine in the summer and was averaging maybe 26 at least on that trip. I also know how to max mileage, and the best I can get on a tank in the tacoma in the winter is maybe 20.xx all highway with a tail wind and driving like a granny

If you were getting 20-22 in a new rav4... that sounds like you were beating on it. So you either adjusted your driving habits tremendously in the tacoma, or your trip computer is FUBAR'd

I was thinking it might be a little optimistic. But $20 seemed to get me just as far in the Tacoma as it did in the RAV. That was my real concern with my upgrade was gas money would not go as far.

The RAV actually got better mileage in sport mode with my daily commute. I always felt it should have gotten better mileage. My driving style has not changed. I was wondering if there is any credence to the idea that the bigger engine is more efficient for hills. I remember the owner manual for the RAV recommended sport mode for hilly regions.

Hills, from my experience, kill tacoma mileage. It won't hold speed without downshifting. I don't really care too much about mileage, otherwise I would not have gotten a truck, but I do take note sometimes as to what absolutely kills mileage.

I've gotten 19 all the way from South Carolina to north Carolina, about 3+- hr drive doing 75mph the whole way with cruise on.

Staying below 70 and it gets in the 20 area

There's definitely a crappy spot on my truck for mileage. It's like 62-66. 55-60 on the highway is really good, but too slow. 66-70 ish is the sweetspot. Anything higher and you lose mpgs.

I am getting 22 around town, 24 if I am on the interstate and 15-16 towing. I am not a speeder tho, usually right around the speed limit.

Lol northeast TN. Not in 4wd. We have only had one snow of any significance and I am retired. My longest trip in 4wd was probably 5 miles to my daughters house and back several times. Don’t remember that tank but it wasn’t 22 for sure.
