    Spend it all on stuff....

NOT! Peel off 5k (spend it on anything you want) and then use the rest to find 7 stocks that are blue chip companies in different sectors and pay dividends and then reap the benefits in 10-20 years. You will be a much happier man.

A large company that is a prime investment. Some good ones could include Apple, Verizon, Google, Ford, Catapillar, Exxon/Mobil, etc. (although some of them don't pay dividends they are still companies that will be around a long time). Just make sure you don't load up on one particular sector. Also, think about the things that you use that isn't just a fad.

Be very careful about 'Financial Advisors!" Most are selling you product where they make money and you may not. Talk but I wouldn't bite the bullet. Also you could do what is called 'no load' mutual funds. No load means that you don't pay to get in or get out. Vanguard is a good company for this kind of thing. Fidelity is also a good company. When I used to buy mutual funds, I would look at the funds short and long term return and if the current manager is still the active manager.

If it helps you with the words I speak, I have 27 years of experience in investing in stocks and I have a masters in biz with an emphasis in Investments.

I am proud of you if you don't blow it! That 40k could very easily mean $400,000 in your future.

If you are a reader, look at one of the Mottly Fools books - simple books on simple investing. If you prefer to listen, you can get books for your ipod from audible.

Good luck and grow your money!

What's weird is that I really don't even think of Canada as a separate country... Just an extension of the US where there is a definite border we have to cross and that "ay" thing everyone says when we get there. LOL

Why not just guns and armor. With those items, you can get as many hookers and blow as you want! ... if you're good anyway!
