    First coat of Redgard on the shower.
    My plan is to put a second coat on the walls, and set the tile, leaving out the bottom course.
    Then, coat the floor with the Redgard (2x), set floor tiles and fill in the bottom course on the wall.

    Just laid a few sheets of the stone out to see how it's going to look. The back of the niche will be stone as well. I'm going to call the guy who did my granite, and see if he has something I could use for a shelf inside of it.

    One more day I should have the shower finished. Not sure why, but this is one job I have been sweating. It sure is a bunch of work.

    Grout the floor tomorrow, finish the walls Saturday, grout the walls Sunday.

    I really miss this type of work. I have been out of it for the last 8 years. When I stop and look around at what I'm doing on my own home, I feel as if I'm wasting my given abilities. Take that for what it is. I just really miss doing this stuff for a living.

    Jack of all trades, master of none.

    @scottalot

    I want to put a glass shelf in the shower niche. What do I need for this, and can you help me?

    I need a piece 12 3/4" X 3 1/4".

    I'll have to figure out a way to epoxy some hangers/brackets to the tile and glass.

    Tell me what you think

    image.jpg image.jpg

    I really wanted to finish this today, but I ran out of bull nose tile. Maybe tomorrow.

    Figured it would have to be tempered.

    Didn't think about acrylic.

    My othe thought is to contact the guy who did my granite work and see if he can hook me up with a scrap piece.

    Floors are getting sanded this weekend. We are starting tomorrow morning.

    A friend of my father in law is going to let me use his dustless sanding equipment. We got everything set up inside the house this evening, ready to tomorrow.

    This is a huge step towards being done by the end of the month. Hopefully if we get it done in about two and a half days I will have time to form up the driveway this weekend as well. It is supposed to warm up a little next week. Hopefully I can pour some concrete.

    Christ your a real man, meanwhile I’m over here building my house with pancakes and maple syrup. Looking good, really want to see the whole thing once finished garage and all. I’ve followed this for awhile and you’ve really inspired me but I’m no great at trimming out and finishing touches.

    15 hours straight for me yesterday (only took a break to stand up and stretch my back out). We got the whole floor sanded, edged and scraped. Now for the buff and vacuum and 1st coat. Jack was able to help me yesterday, and stayed later than I had expected. Way ahead of the schedule for now. Still need to send my wife to go pick up the finish. Going with a satin waterbase from Bona.

    1st coat is on :woot::yay:.

    Ran a buffer all day. Started with an 80 grit then proceeded to 120, 180, and finally a 220. Yes, the entire floor, 4 times. The. The real fun part.....vacuuming.

    2nd coat tomorrow, then I will finish up some other things I still need to do inside, and when that is done, I will do a 3rd coat.

    The Walnut inlays popped out great. I love it. I don't like glossy floors (think they look like high school gyms) so I used a satin finish. Very happy. The Bona water base is a 2 part system. It is tricky to mix up, but soooooo much faster than polyurethane to lay down, and it won't "Amber" over time.

    I also got my gutter drain lines dug and had the drain pipe delivered. I should be able to put that in Sunday (there is a section that goes under the driveway, in front of the garage doors). It is supposed to warm up next week. My plan is to form the driveway and install gutter drains Sunday and Monday. My father in law was supposed to line up the concrete finished for Wednesday. If he is good to go, I will have a driveway Thursday. I'm fast tracking as much as I can right now. I can't wait to move. Been a long time coming.

    Finished the second coat today around 12:00. It looks fantastic, like glass. Pics later.

    Once that was done I worked outside installing the gutter drains. Holy crap it was cold out. I finally got the skid steer to crank and was able to get that all covered up as well. Tomorrow I start forming for concrete.

    I built house for about 8 years. My first real job was installing and finishing hardwood flooring. I grew up around construction. If I don't know how to do it, I'll read about it and give it a shot. Usually the hardest part on anything is just getting started.
