Well done, OP! After everything that you have done and everything that could have been wrong, those two, VERY simple things are all that they could hit you on? Congrats!

Anything under 5000 sqft here does not have to have submitted plans for review by inspectors. My plans I took were the ones I drew on graph paper myself. My brother in laws house, no shit....... was down on a napkin!

The smoke alarm thing, I believe, would be a "knowledge of the craft" thing. I, however, am not a professional electrician. I learned the hell of a lot and enjoyed it all though.

    Agreed. Thank you.

We’re redoing our mud/laundry room and damn, I wish I made a build thread for it. This thread is awesome.

Bored at work tonight and read through this whole build and all I can say is... Wow. What an incredible journey. I always toyed with the idea of building my own house in my head, but I think you've really solidified that idea. It's officially on my bucket list now. If you don't mind me asking, how mush have you spent as a whole constructing the house and shop?

$300 CAD/ yard for 4500psi is robbery. When I was in Philly it was ~$150 USD/ yard for 4500psi if you were a joe off the street and were filling an entire truck.

When was that though? Concrete prices (around here) have raised significantly in the last several years, months even.

4500 psi concrete hasn't been $170 CAD in like 20 years around here

Getting started is the hardest part. Trust me. I do have a lot of experience doing most things, but I have never done a few of them on this scale until now. It's taken a long time (I still have a little more to do) but holy shit....I can move in!!!! The codes dept is done with me.

Holy shit. Don't let you wife buy a mailbox. FYI that is a 12" compound sliding miter saw (it weighs about 50lbs or more) the mailbox makes it look small.

I'm here buttoning up a few things before move in day (Sat.). I wanted to see how this thing would work. So far so good. Had some red oak flooring and decided to set it off. First burn in the new fireplace.

Work day well spent. Just read through this. Amazing. I'm actually weighing my options as to whether I'm going to buy a house or buy land and build a shouse. Money being my only hold back.
