Do you know the reasoning behind that provision ? Here we have to use lots of rebar in our foundations and while you can use the rebar grid as a ground for your electrical panel , you can also just use a traditional grounding rod in which case the panel is not grounded to the rebar grid .

 

The NEc has different stipulations for different applications. For
Example in an industrial class 1 Div. 2 area the ground rod has to be 7/8" thick and 10' of the rod has to be in the earth (here in Tx). It also varies from state to state and an engineer can supersede the NEC if safety is of concern.

 

What would be the concern in a residenyial application like the OP's ? Soil conditions or lightning or what

 

No idea really. Location is all I can think of

 

I'm not sure why the rebar needs to be grounded to the panel if it is installed pre inspection. Seems silly to me, but most don't bother with it since the rebar is not required to pass. Most guys put the rebar in after to avoid that issue.

As far as the panel is concerned, I believe it takes a 3/4" Rod 8' deep.

 

Started to form walls yesterday. They should finish up today and be ready to pour tomorrow, and remove forms Friday.

 

Well I'm sitting at work and I get a call that they went ahead and poured the walls today! Come on quitting time. Wanna go check it out.

They stripped the forms today. Walls look good, not as smooth as I would have liked but that is not really a big deal. There are ways around that to make it nice on the inside, and it may help with a textured look on the outside. I will need to add a few anchor bolts in some places, and from a rough measurement, it is about 1/2 to 1" off here and there lengthwise. I am going to put a water level on it to check for levelness across the tops. Still have to check it for square and see how it comes out. The garage is dead on.

Been doing some work. Plumbing under slab is ready, and waterproofing is almost complete. Getting stone delivered tomorrow to finish that.

Passed the plumbing, foundation and waterproofing inspections this morning .

Going back this afternoon to start backfilling everything. Might have a basement slab by this weekend.

 

Been a little while since I've made an update. I have been very busy. Spreading and screeding stone into the foundation:


I formed up the back wall for the slab with 2x10's and made a removable middle section for the concrete truck to pull into. I was very lucky, not one pump truck has been used on this job site. They were even able to pour the walls out of the truck.
