I've seen people take buckshot to the face and survive...what's your point?

Bottom line is that no caliber should be discounted or relied on soley because of the size of the bullet...to do so is foolish, uneducated and could cost someone their life

How long (in the dark, under extreme stress) does it take you to get to that closet, locate shotgun, locate jacket with shells, find the pocket with the shells, remove them, and then load them in the correct order you stated (rubber in the chamber, 00 in the mag)? How many times have you practiced doing this? What if there is more than one intruder?

All of this is totally dependent on the bullet itself, ball vs expanding vs frangible. A 9mm is just as likely to over penetrate as 7.62 depending on the ammo used. I believe there have been studies done that have proved that all the major pistol calibers (9mm, .40SW, .45ACP) to be equally effective against human targets.

My opinion is a rifle of any kind is kinda silly for home defense, like mentioned before if an intruder hears you and hides just outside the door guess what is coming out of the door frame first? The barrel, and to those who say the military and swat use sbr's to clear rooms/buildings.......they do it in teams. Unless you have a couple guys with sbr's in your room that is not the same. And I am not bashing anyone who uses this method at all, I practice clearing rooms with my glock close to my chest and when I come into an open area I will raise it eye level. If by some chance the asshole is waiting for me outside a door while it it not at eye level that's when I would start firing for center mass right away while bringing the gun up for a more accurate shot. BRB using my 30.06 for home defense.....just playin.

its a chance im willing to take, the rounds are coloured blue and green, I have kids in the house, so keeping a loaded gun in the house would be foolish, i sleep lightly anyhow, It wouldnt take much to hear the window break and the doors have a light squeak to them.

we are all know it all's arn't we, not really, it's all what one prefers isn't it, I like the bigger caliber I own both .45 and 9mm, .45 is my go to. I was just trying to defend my point of view, not trying to bash anyone, take it easy

Lol,my front door has squeaked for a while now and that's the only reason I haven't oiled it yet. Plus we have a alarm system which is LOUD and a cop that lives right behind me,so the chances of me needing to defend my home is slim to none, the most I worry about is some dick breaking into our vehicles.

Wow that is some good info, thanks for that. I like how they were captured in the wall vs exiting. That's why I got to know my lanes of fire for different situations inside my home. My daughter sleeps in a high top kinda bed (like a single bunk bed) and my son who is 6 months sleep in a crib obviously, so I take all that and use it for my training, oh and I also have a dog for an advanced warning system (sometimes a little too advanced,I don't think a possum is going to break in lol) but there are a lot more variables than just point and shoot like some people think. I'm not saying anyone in this thread but I have come across some real asshats.

I've got the same gun, sleep easy with it at the bedside. Just 00 buck for me, don't want to injure the neighbors if I ever had a break in.

Wow, that surprises me! Good info!

Maybe I'll switch it up for some turkey shot haha :D

Regardless, I do think an AK would be a bit excessive for HD. I like my shotgun, especially with all the rules and regulations on firearms here in NYS.

I like an AK for home defense and .308 nato with staggered tracers for hard to kill shit in the dark. Paranoid? Maybe a little but I sure sleep good.

something else I have thought about using is my surefire, looking at it one day, I thought it would make a good defense weapon in any situation, be at home or on the street. you can flash your perp in the eyes with 500 lumens and dis orient him quickly, then go on the offensive and trike his temple with the crenellated bezel. just a thought

That's way to close for comfort for me lol. Nobody mentioned a compound bow,I have some pretty wicked Rage broadheads that will do some serious damage and won't go through walls......just maybe the perp lol.
