Why not just use a Carlon Old Work box? It's what you use in remodels if the drywall is staying. The are not rated for ceiling install but work just fine for a wall application. Cut the hole then see how bad that sheetrock is. I'm betting an old work box holds just fine

I saw that but the hole for a round junction old work box would be 3 1/2". That's a standard size for both new and old work box cut-outs. Why not cut that hole and then see how the edges of the rock look? I'm willing to bet once the hole is cut there's plenty of rock for the box to get a secure hold on. If I didn't know how to mud and tape that's how I would approach it. Hell, I do know how to mud and tape and that's still how I would approach it. lol

I want to use an old work box but I don’t know how much Sheetrock is left for it to hold on to. New light has three arms with with sockets and globes on the ends and is a little heavy. Going to buy one tonight and see how it fits. If not good I will cut out a rectangle piece and try my best at patchwork.

 

I would get a small piece of plywood that’s just big enough to catch the top and bottom of the sheetrock, slide it in behind the sheetrock, and use a 1/2” thick electrical box. This will give you backing for the new drywall you need to patch the hole as well as hood the light securely.

 

Finally, some R value.

Should come just in time to make hanging the christmas lights a little easier.

 

The ryobi one works ok. It did have the overheat shutoff keep kicking off the power when i was grinding on tile grout but thats tough on any machine.

 

I bought the Worx corded Oscillating tool and it works great. With the correct blade, you can easily cut plywood and 2x4 that are installed in need of repair. The cordless would be nice but for $60, the corded one did the job. https://www.worx.com/corded-oscillating-multi-tool-wx686l.html#

My latest home improvement job is just a small one. Our master bath toilet sits in a nook and previous owner had a small cabinet to hold various bathroom items above said toilet. It was ugly and they didn't mount it level. So, I removed that, painted the nook wall and added some shelves. Just waiting on some nice wicker baskets to hold all the ladies bathroom supplies. Our bathroom is mostly white/gray and we went with an olive green color for the wall and I stained the wood shelves dark to add some color.

 

Climbed onto the roof and fixed a leak. This is the second roofing nail that has backed out through the shingle. I pumped the hole full of roofing patch sealer, so that hole should be good the life of this roof.

 

To Seal & Protect right there.

 

Was supposed to be an easy job replacing this lower skirt and cove moulding as it was a little "punky". Well things are never as they appear. Had to rip off all of the wood on this porch post due to massive rot and ant infestation. Had these shims around the base to widen the base...odd. Fortunately, the 4X4 PT post is fine, just soaked on the bottom 4". I'm letting it dry out for a day or two and then will use Azek to replace everything. Small section of the bottom rail is rotten, so I removed that material and will use some wood epoxy as a first fix.

 

Fortunately, the homeowner was there to witness the carnage and approved of all measures. And this is an hourly job as I don't do estimate work when there is a potential for rot. Phew!
