here we have to use stainless hangers and fasteners if in contact with ACQ treated lumber in areas exposed to re-wetting (ie rain & snow)

So $7 a hanger compared to $2 for zinc plated? Damn. Don't tell Cali please.

I'm pretty certain its only in coastal BC (like our requirement for a rainscreen behind siding) , might have something to do with the proximity to the ocean air but ZMax galvanized hangers were basically rotting off the buildings , like a galvanic corrosion type of reaction where the pressure treated material goes through continuous wetting / drying cycles

check pricing on stainless post saddles , lol

I can see there being an electrochemical reaction under those conditions. I've never seen a galvi hanger rot much less fail where I build. Yet.

I honestly just feel relieved in a way that you guys have a more stringent building code then we do. Cali is off the charts when it comes to structural. But at least I don't have to use stainless hangers anywhere. lol

the common work around is to not use pressure treated lumber , and frame decks with fir that utilizes Vycor Deck Protector or similar to create a waterproof / self-sealing membrane cap on the joists for fastener penetration

I have always used Teco nails for joist hangers. If the hanger is galvanized, use galvanized nails. If stainless, use stainless nails.
Teco is/was a brand. The nails are short, 1-1/4” long and are the diameter of an 8d framing nail.
I always chewed up my fingers nailing joist hangers...ugh
