I heard from my dad they dropped 50% last week after wrapping up the shed job lol. I knew it would happen, but I couldn't wait any longer because my wife and I were expecting our second daughter and I wouldn't have any time to do it after she was born. She was in fact born 2 days ago, so I mean it when I say I was out of time lol.

It's an odd situation in my area. Lumber is declining in price but the lumber yard has been rejecting 50% plus of 2 by material. Had some 2x6x16' ordered and they rejected an entire semi truck load of them. The boards were all pretty badly warped.

The two bigger projects in town (bank and new gas station) gave up on regular 2 by and went to engineered studs instead. Bit more costly but can't sit forever waiting for enough good boards.

Never seen a pink 2x before. Is it some sort of anti-rot coating or just paint?

I really don't know why they're pink, neither does my dad. They came from home depot, they seem to always have their cheapest 8' studs painted pink.

I had to buy 5 pieces of primed door trim and 3 1"x6" x 8' primed boards this past weekend from Lowe's, $90. I almost shit my pants when they told me the total. Hopefully prices around here start dropping soon.

Nice shed, I'm going 12x12 but on a concrete pad

I've never seen the pink (or blue) studs here.

I know in the south your PT wood is often plain looking - my question, your sleeper floor joists are they PT?

Exactly. Yes Pressure Treated. Excellent. They don't stop rot and insects but better than not treated by a mile.

These are rated for ground contact for 30 years I believe, so hopefully they'll come close to that. They're contacting only concrete too, not dirt so that ought to help a little too.

Yeah, it will help for sure. You are in LA - hot and WET. In WA we also have plenty of moisture just usually 30°F cooler. They will rot at the concrete interface eventually. Stays wet and eventually the PT copper will dissipate. (Used to be copper and chromium and arsenic!) Dollars to donuts not 30 years. That is marketing speak for perfect conditions. But no worries, they will be good for many years because no cut ends on concrete pads.

I had to replace some PT porch posts that had rotted out. I used PT of course, but also soaked the pre-cut pieces for a few days mainly because the cut ends and the PT Cu only goes so deep. I used the dark brown copper naphthanate juice. They lasted nicely.

I bought 6 pieces of 1x4x8 from Lowes for around $12 a piece this past spring via curbside pickup to fix the drywall ceiling cracks in my garage. About $70 with tax and most of the boards were severely warped or full of knots in various sections. o_O

The builder used nails instead of screws and laid the drywall edges wherever they felt like it instead of on top of the ceiling joists. After 25 years of hot summers and cold winters the drywall ceiling started cracking from one end to the other. I ended up bracing, taping, mudding and texturing the entire section and then priming and painting the entire ceiling.

Anyway, I had two junk boards left over that normally would have been firewood kindling or saved for scrap, but returned them for about a $25 refund.

Question for y’all. I’m running some cable through the attic to get wired network in my office. I located the studs and made a hole in the wall but my fish only goes up about 6 inches and won’t go farther. I thought I found a cross brace or something, so I went up to the attic and ran it down from there at the same spot in the wall and it’s going all the way to the floor. Before I cut a bigger hole in the drywall to see what’s going on, what do I need to consider?
