No , I bought these doors , but I have made similar doors in the past , I just didn't have the time while I was building the house

OZ what kind of trim do you prefer? Shoe or quarter round? Do you make it yourself or buy it?

Door Casing looks awesome! I have to case an entry way that I widened when I bought the house between the living room and kitchen - wish I had the tools and know-how to make the trim. Probably going to just get some 1X6 pieces from HD and cut them to length.

    Very Jealous.

Unless Oz or his wife weigh 400lbs the width is fine, besides the pic is deceiving

    Thanks

Not sure what you are referring to as there is nether of those trim styles in the door trims but yes , I did mill all of the trim elements myself

Take your time and trim a little off until they fit , you might suprise yourself , 1/2 the battle is allowing yourself the time to get it perfect

    ADA suck my balls

It's a 2'6" door , the pic is a bit of an optical illusion , the ceiling height in that end of the house is 7'6" , I'm shooting the pic through another doorway and it's close to the corner so the door looks tall and skinny

Hey Oz, as usual, looks great.

How do you attach the trim to the wall? Is that brad/trim nails I see in the top piece? If so, are they countersunk and do you plan on filling the holes?

The bottom element of the top trim is biscuit joined to the door jamb , the next piece up I glue and clamp to the first and toe nail through the top edge ( that wasn't possible on this particular door due to the ceiling height so I put in a couple 15 gauge face nails ) , the next two pieces above are glued and pinned from above with 18 gauge pins ( glue only on this door due to ceiling height )

The next on are the plinth blocks , I glue and nail those on with a couple 15 gauge nails . I always size the height of my plinth blocks to the same height as the top of the bottom rail of the door , I think that provides a good elevation line connecting the door to the trim .

Last thing I do is land the side trims . I pre cut them about 3" long , stand them on the plinth blocks and if the casing stands plumb I mark the tops for length , if the casing leans to the left or right I adjust the bottom cut until the casing stands plumb , then mark the top for height and cut them .

I have a test block that is about 12" long with a square cut on one end and a 1 degree bevel on the other , I use this to test how the top of the casing needs to be cut in order to have a tight fit .

I always cut the sides about 1/16" long the first time which allows me to make a small adjustment if needed , and my final cut I leave about 1/32" long and when I install the sides I place the bottom on the plinth hold it with my knee , pull the centre to me and push the top in then release the centre for a good sproing fit

The side casings are glued to the jamb , wall , top and plinth then nailed with as few 15 gauge nails as necessary to hold it tight

These trims are then hand sanded , coated with Varathane , nail holes filled then coated again with Varathane

Oh, I guess you didn't know. Oz is very obese. No way he is fitting through that door. Also its not handicapped accessible.

That insult only affects actual flyers fans, because they realize the mistakes and failures they have made in life.
