Correct chips in the blue bust in the bag. The bag gets dumped maybe 10 to 1. It also depends on what equipment and cuts I'm doing. The joiner and planer to take rough lumber to boards will fill the barrel pretty quickly but a lot of sanding finishing is more smaller dust but that also packs down a good bit.

How long have you been operating it with the current setup? And have you had to dismantle and tinker with the fan at all?

The chip separator was added about two years ago no messing with the fan but a good bit of testing on the baffle separator. The jet bags are better filtering that the old ones but still need a little bit of work to get them sealed better as it blows out a little on start up.

Did you rig the baffle up to swirl the chips for a gravity-assisted removal, or???

That's a clever design. Archived to my "to-do" file.
    Thanks!

It looks like it has a baffle...

And it probably doesn't cost $50-$65 to make?

    :notsure:

Edit: Do you have one of those cyclonic lids on your dust collection system? How well do they work?

The lids out now are based off his design. And the lid I use had ports but no baffle so the was added. The purchased ones are supposed to do OK and with modification will work better. And during large solid surface countertop builds you have some down time during glueups so always have some sort of something to tinker with in the shop.

The baffle is what really makes the cyclone effect work. We were dumping the bags and collector and making adjustments and without the baffel a good bit of chips were still ending up in the bag.

That's a painters fix not a craftman's tool. Craftsmen scribe the wood to whatever it goes against. I have done the same with everything from Formica to trim like Oz.

^Agree! World needs more craftsmen and less handymen. I could look at fine finishing work like that all day long, it shows a lot about the builder and is something to be admired and respected.

Not always about the work it took, but always about what work was taken. It's a beautiful piece, Oz.

A large shop vac can also be set up like this for single tools at a time. My rigid contractors saw has a hookup for a vac and didn't do to badly. And its worth the effort to dial it all in. The only tool not on the collection system is the router but if there are two of us in the shop one will follow the router to get as much as possible.

Where I use to work they would kick your ass if you even touched that with caulking. I was taught to scribe everything and there wasn't a choice of a gap in a multi-million dollar house.
