True. Don't put that past some interweb genius out there though.

Tablesaw with dado jig. I'm not saying it's not a useful tool and I can see where it could come in handy. I just don't see very many anymore.

 

The ras can be a scary tool when in the hands of a novice or someone who doesn't understand the way it cuts. The sliding mitre saw is simpler to use and in some ways safer that's led to decline in ras and why they can be bought so cheaply. Its like a actual panel saw. Can I do without one yes if I had the space/money I'd pick one up.

I still don't understand the hand tool only crowd. I'm not a big fan of backbreaking labor to saw boards.

 

Oh, I agree. If you don't know how to use one it can scare you when it jumps towards you. Then again a sliding miter saw can do the same if you don't know how to use them. I'm not arguing that it's not a good tool. I've used one for years and years. I don't have one in my personal shop though.

I used them when I was learning cabinet making. I haven't built a thing with them since then. Now something like a plane, saw, or chisels yes but not building using hand tools only. I have an appreciation for fine handcrafted things but using hand tools only for something that is priced so high that it sits in your shop doesn't make you any money.

Last thing I actually used hand tools to make was a 19 degree angle dovetailed stool. It was cool but it was more to make a angled dovetail for me to learn rather than for profit.

 

Its a couple inches wider than my planer so I handplaned the top lots of fun with the knot in it. I have an odd habit of building things and once its done I'm kinda of done with it so I'll finish this and toss a price tag on it.

If you YouTube hand saws you can see some of the crazy handsaw guys come close to heart attacks trying to cut lumber.

 

That's a really nice looking table.

Only handsaws I use anymore are the japanese ones.

 

I just bought one of the oscillating saws and used it for the first time yesterday. I was really impressed with it. It was like cutting warm butter with it. Sucker went right through Hardiplank. I can see if coming in handy for some repairs around the house.

 

I have an old 1960's 16" trailer mounted RAS

I used the shit out of one of those while restoring the exterior windows etc. at the old house. But it was the cordless, and some of the blades weren't great. I need to hunt down some better blades. A little hard to control speed on my model.

I also bought the angle drill attachment for it.

edit: I have that same reno book

 

I've found that the key to multi-tools are quality blades. A cheap HF tool gets the job done for me - but not the blades that come with it.

Got the right side hat out of the form



Moved the form to the left side and got the left side hat glued up and in the form











While that cures I kerfed both the left and right baseboards to bend around their respective corners

Prior to installing the right baseboard I put PL Premium sub floor adhesive in the kerfs , this substantially strengthens the kerfed area after it cures







Then I applied the right side baseboard



Once the baseboard was on and fixed I used a glue syringe to inject some Titebond 3 into the kerfs where there was voids not filled by the PL Premium
