The Unico system looks like a retrofit A/C system my mom had installed in her home in central New York back in the late 90s where they used the attic space to add a air handler, condensing coil and duct work to a cape home that had a boiler baseboard heating throughout. At the time this was pretty innovative for that area IIRC it was only the second install the company had done where there was no heating elements in the air handler. In the summer when it was 85degrees and 70% humidity this system really helped make it comfortable.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
We have a +200 year old Federal/Colonial style and neither of us want mini splits hanging on the walls.

Sure is! It is a 4-zone LG system I installed as part of this project. Has given me very efficient heating and cooling all year round even with NH winters.

You will still have to have an outdoor condenser correct?

Have you thought about using mini-ducts instead of the interior air handler that most mini-splits use? You would have to stuff an air handler in the ceiling of a closet or in your attic, but it can be done.

    That's what the Unico is.

It is not tall enough my garage is 9'11" floor to ceiling. Also costs 2X what most others cost. I have 24"OC storage trusses in my garage but no ladder access currently. The one I linked at home depot will just slide between the trusses minimal effort. Thanks though.

over time the wood ones get loose from the hot and cold cycles
the metal ones do not so last year I replaced my 50 year old wood one with a metal one that is lighter to operate and has a higher weight rating than wood

    I don't have any leaks. ;)

I recommend painted the exposed pvc for added protection as the AZ Sun is brutal on exposed pipe.

Speaking about mini splits and other HVAC bits. Does anyone have experience with the new press-style refrigerate fittings compared to standard flares?

I've been looking into this company: https://www.rapidlockingsystem.com/

I had a leak on two of my flares and just don't trust my lack of experience redoing them correctly as they will be behind drywall eventually.

Looks like plumbing pro press style. We have been putting those in for years on industrial sites with no so far complaints that I know of. IIRC the earliest we were using them was 2013?

They look very similar to the pro press fittings for plumbing. I believe they are just designed for higher pressure and whatever the o-ring is made of is safe to come in contact with the refrigerants.

From your experience with pro press, I'm assuming that is on all fully rigid pipes correct?

    Copper potable water lines. I don’t recall if it’s K or L. If that’s what you’re asking.

    going to be fun!
Being a fan of brazing the fittings in place these do have a place to be used as you're very limited in tight spaces with that tool to crimp the fittings. I have used them before but I work on larger stuff (40-50 ton self-contained units) most of the time where you have room and have not used them on soft copper.
