what thickness is slab ? What is concrete mix ? Is slab reinforced and if so what is reinforcing spec ? Is it insulated and include a vapour barrier ? Is contractor prepping the base , forming the slab or just place and finish ?

this question is kinda like "how much does it cost to build a house?"

FYI , there is also a cement shortage in North America as well

Got the busted stair nose replaced after work today. I hate this flooring but it's not in the cards to replace it for another few years. Will work on the tacky trim on the edges after work next week.

Was hoping for something more long term. Currently this is what I have been doing.

I guess we have had a hot spring and summer but the tree went to the full bloom during the spring and looking at it right now is pretty green. Grass around has good and and bad parts.

It's funny, the user manual actually shows a bird's nest on it and not to worry because it can support 20 lbs. Plus I can always tell the birds to flock off through the speaker.

Forgive me for not knowing the proper terminology here. I want to install a folding attic ladder and build a storage platform. With there being limited space I was thinking I would elevate platform between the truss. Can you think off any issues with doing so?

I would be very careful when making changes to trusses in your attic. This is one of those rare occasions where you need to talk to an architect or a builder. There are lots of loads that have to be considered. Just my 2 cents….

I would only store very light things there.......but heat ect will be a problem.

Then you move and next guy puts heavy crap there..............

I’ve stored stuff in the attic above my garage on top of the trusses in two homes. Nothing super heavy. Both homes had pull down attic stairs and plywood for the base. It did make me a tiny bit nervous but I didn’t notice any problems. As far as static loads go, I believe the trusses would be designed for snow / rain / roofers and therefore incorporate a reasonable safety margin.

The real question is with dynamic loads in the event of an earthquake or hurricane / tornado. Tying trusses together could create a completely different dynamic than the original. It may be possible to model for this but I don’t think anyone does that with residential property. Insurance may not notice though, nor have the time / expertise to do a solid investigation.

I wouldn’t personally overthink it, just be reasonable and you can expect it’ll be ok.
