un-install tub, flip it and make the feet only come up a 1/8" taller than the tub edge; if that is too big of a gap then make it 1/16" I really don't see what the issue is. Then place a smaller bead of silicone along the edge as directed. Am I missing something? The directions are online are pretty clear, your feet are just adjusted too far out for your preference.

 

It wasn’t a “want” it was a following directions, and a confusion of why have feet if the tub isn’t supposed to sit on them?

I don’t mind the look with the gap and I haven’t measured but it can’t be much more than 1/8”. The picture makes it look worse. I only have a bit of concern with water going under and the tub shifting around if bumped or leaned on or whatever.




I said above I was going to roll with it as is, if I have issue I’ll disconnect the plumbing flip the tub over, put the feet more up into the tub, run a bead on the edge, and reinstall. I don’t really foresee having issue though but who knows.

I will try one more time to suggest something.

Silicone the feet only. Once they are lowered so the gap is smaller. This should allow for only a small nudge to have no ill effects. I assume that the silicone bead on the edge of the tub does more than just keep the tub in place as it will also reduce lateral stress on the feet and drain pipe when accidently nudged.

 

From my understanding is that the tub is constructed in 2 pieces. You have the inner tub that holds the water and you have the outer skirting that completes the look of a "solid" porcelain tub. If the inner tub isn't supported by the leveling feet on the subfloor then it would only be supported by the outer skirting which might not be able to handle the weight of the 93 gallons of water in addition to the weight of the bather. The leveling feet look to be bridged across a span that will more accurately support the tubs weight.

This was kinda what I was alluding to in my other comment about using a straight edge to level the feet in relation to the tub's skirting surround. As long as the completed floor is level and finished to what the user wants, the tub shouldn't need much of front to back or side to side adjustment. I agree with the 1/8 to 1/16 adjustment which should account for the thick bead of caulking to effectively glue the tub skirting to the floor.

Do not think this is stirring this thread, this thread is about home improvement with a wide range of end users skill. I'm no contractor but I do try to follow the instructions when available. Dont take this as a jab towards you, that's not my intention. We all want your install to be satisfactorily and done correctly. When I tackle a plumbing or electrical issue in my house I try to follow code. If I cant find the correct code, I follow the instructions included with the equipment. If thats not available and I cant find the installation instructions online, I try to find youtube videos or forum posts showing my specific install. With that said, YT and online posts should be taken with a grain of salt, much like this thread as you cannot confirm the character background of all those involved. When we offer help, we try to include snips of installation instructions or context to better help the person that posted the question. Not only does this help you out but it helps anyone else that might come along and either read through the thousands of posts on this thread or if they used the search feature and came across your post. We dont like to see people fail at their project and the fact that you did all the labor from the flooring to the install really says something about you, especially since you jumped in without instructions. Admirable I tip my hat at you. I recently installed undermount kitchen cabinet lighting and I thought I bit off more than I could chew but I'm glad its mostly done. I still have to install the tile backsplash over my butchered drywall mud and tape job. Hardwired to a dimmer switch. We're getting quarts countertops installed so I'm probably going to have the installers do the backsplash too since its a service they provide. Bottom line is if you're happy with your install then go for it. Be proud of it but now you have the skills to do it better the next time. I hope this helps.

I wasn’t taking anything as a jab but I appreciate the comments. I just can’t believe all the attention my tub question got haha.

I just had some quartz counter tops installed too and I’m not thrilled with the final product, mainly the caulk and sealing jobs. But I’m skilled enough to do better than the installers so in this situation like I’ve done before, I just said alright get on out you’re done, and I fix it myself.

I’m pretty proud to have done everything in this master suite remodel except for drywall and the tile shower, but I definitely am learning as I go and just doing my best. Mainly because I don’t trust other people to give a damn.

I saw something just 2 hours ago that seems appropriate right here.

I stopped at a local deli/convenient store and parked by a very nice looking HVAC company van, there was a young fellow sitting in it with the engine idling (presumably for the AC) eating his lunch and gawking at his phone with the typical open mouthed, glass eyed look.

Depending on your point of view it could be from just wasteful to an environmental crime to idle your vehicle -- but that isn't what attracted my attention.

The wipers were on interval, going every 10 seconds -- the rain had stopped 10 minutes ago and the sun was out.

I went in, made my purchase and the wipers were still on when I left.

Does it hurt anything, not necessarily.

It does wear them out and can scratch the glass though -- and this fellow is presumably an HVAC tech so he should know better -- if he gave a damn about his employers equipment.

 

Yesterday I kept envisioning a claw foot tub while reading this thread.

Yes sir. They got thru 2 layers of shingles and hit the metal underlayment (apparently that was a thing in 1920) and decided to move on to the neighbor's house.

Ok, so it definitely is looking like my contractor took my $$$ and split, so I'll be pursuing legal action. That doesnt help me with my 20% completed work though. I can finish the door he didn't finish, and try the window on my porch, but I'm concerned now with my garage since he started to rip down the old wood trim and the corners and then left. For the remaining existing wood trim, do I channel around it? Or would it be easiest just to remove it? I'm thinking channeling around it may not be an option, just because its sort of decorative and not a simple shape. I'm not thrilled about getting up on a ladder that high - me and heights don't get along - but I'd like to see if I can try to side this since I'm out about 5 grand at the moment.

This is one of those times I wish my garage was only one story, its about 24 feet to the peak of the roof.
