That junction is where you wire the pigtail so you can plug it in. I've installed more then a few dishwashers and have never hardwired one. Always pigtail to plug under sink cabinet. The whole idea, and @soundman98 pointed this out, is to be able to easily disable power to the machine for service or emergency. I will bet you any amount of money that I can unplug that fucker from under the sink faster then you can run to the panel and flip that breaker. lol

I get it though. In your instance it's already hardwired so it's easier and cheaper to use it. lol

It'd be a close race for me, 50/50 odds. Takes me a little while to get to the ground on my knees open doors, reach around the disposal.

i'm very mixed on the idea. on one hand, the gfi is always going to be at the back of the cabinet, and the dishwasher has a big motor that gfi's sometimes don't like the inrush characteristics of a/c motors. on the other, the appliance is mixing electric and water, with a big heating element in it.

it's ridiculous in most of my area, as we're all conduit and wire. but for most of the US and canada using romex/loomex in residential is very common. and it's extremely easy for a homeowner to put a staple through the wire.

considering that something like 70% of house fires are electrical, it makes sense they want to make efforts to reduce that by trying to 'see' the problem before it happens. though honestly, most of the house fires i've worked usually has tons of other indicators of shoddy work--whether done by a paid professional or by the homeowner. this is the reason for towns requiring permits for work, to try to catch these things before it becomes an issue.

but the #1 thing anyone can do is simply to make sure connections are TIGHT. most damage/fires is caused by someone 'meh-ing' the connections and leaving them slightly loose.

but the arc fault tech is still extremely new, and really only works on a theory. it's only recently that the breakers finally stopped tripping from installing dimmers on lights.

i've done some similar installs. like i said, newer arc fault breakers have improved circuitry, and are less likely to cause issues like this than they did before.

i've been told by many electrical veterans that gfci tech went through the same fledgling process in the 80's and it wasn't until the early 2000's that they finally got all the bugs worked out to be the reliable tech that everyone see's gfi's as today. it just all takes time.

i just want someone else to be the guinea pig!

Finally got the river rock around my new deck cleaned up/expanded a little around all sides. Removed a little more sod, added some landscape fabric, then rocks. Only needed 3 bags. Was going to use some plastic edging, but decided against it as I shovel snow around the deck. That Linseed oil stain dried nicely.

One time I was in a Whole Foods at the dining area and these girls left all their trash on the table, as if there was servers and busers working there.

Thank you. I'm not sure myself. The guy at the paint store said the first heavy coat wouldn't need to be redone this year, but I could if I wanted. But after that, every 2 years. I've not even read the can, so who knows. I only used about 1/5 of a gallon, so plenty left for future coats. Past experience with other stains is that they never last as long as what the can "says". But those were all water based. I'm also curious to see how this holds up in the real world.

While I’m hammering away on the shop build I took a chance on a younger contractor to build our fence and I’m super glad I did. There’s no way I could have built this fence to the level he did. In total we had about 550’ of fence built with 3 different designs.

On the long community side with our neighbor we did a 4’ hog panel, but we wanted the tops level with the bottom board following the grade of the land. Every bottom board had to be scribed… it took him a while . Injection pressure treated posts and the rest of the frame is regular soaked pressure treated wood. I’m planning a pretty long apple orchard that will cover most of the fence.
    IMG_9018.jpg

The back fence is similar, but it’s 6 ft tall. Hog panels don’t usually come in 6’ heights, so I designed it with 2 4’ panels laid vertical (cut to 6’ tall) with a splice board in the center to hold them together. Doing it this way results in a roughly 8’ long 6’ tall panel. It came out incredibly strong. The deer hate it, I love it.

We own quite a ways into the woods, so I had him put in an access gate where we’ll clean up behind it and build some nice compost bins.

That fence dies into chain link that we share with the other neighbor. That fence is completely covered by baby cedar trees.

Our street-facing fence was a contemporary horizontal design. We went with clear cedar pickets and stained jet-black posts and caps where the pickets lap on the posts. Couple of gates that were a mega pain to build because we had them angled to square-up to our existing walkways… he wasn’t too happy when building those but it turned out super nice.

Slowly turning this 70’s ranch house into our own style.
    IMG_9061.jpg

Felt weird hiring someone to do something for a change… I would pace back and forth and watch out the window not knowing what to do with myself. Anyway, super excited to cut the dog loose tomorrow and then we’ll stain the front fence to match the wood shed :D

Yeah they’re 4x4 squares — so I guess that’s technically called a horse panel or something.

I know your talking about the sign, but did anyone get why I posted this on this thread? I didn't point it out in my original post and I'm not sure anyone actually saw it.

Ignoring the no more cheap tacos, I'm assuming that the I-beam was supposed to continue and it was cut off.

The taco pinata? Which I thought was just a sign also until I noticed it was a pinata. There looks like some nostrils might have made their way into the shot. Most likely some kind of construction technique, which I didn't notice.
