I wanted a gas range too, until I got one. At first I really liked gas, it is so much better than radiant electric. Then the honeymoon ended and day to day life took over. In my mind there were two choices gas or radiant electric. Given those choices I was willing to put up with the downsides of gas. When I found out that induction ranges were "affordable" and I turned into this guy:
    Screenshot 2023-06-21 at 11.47.11 AM.png

I'm in a new honeymoon stage and haven't done much but boil water. lol The induction range boils 6 quarts of water in an open stock pot in 16 minutes vs 20 minutes on the gas. Also the gas range made a mess on the bottom of my new pot.

I know some folks get their panties in a wad about gas ranges and indoor pollution but the difference is really noticeable. Also boiling that pot of water on the gas range heated up the whole kitchen vs barely noticeable on the induction.

As for pans I went with this Cuisinart set. https://www.cuisinart.com/shopping/cookware/stylish-cookware-sets/mcp-12n/

I looked at the high end pans, but I couldn't see any reason to pay for a fancy name. The old set was from Costco and did their job just fine for many years.

Hydroblock. My guy likes it better, says the drains are a bit improved and it's also a bit less expensive so win win.

That means one leg from the bkr panel is tied to where your neutral is supposed to be. Try measuring BK to R on the bottom side of the breaker. I imagine you will get roughly 120VAC.

What ever you get, that system probably isn't wired correctly. I'm not a HVAC guy, but I know power, and I have never seen a hot leg (your "white" wire) landed on a neutral either on purpose or by design.
Would need to see the schematic for the AC to know for sure, but it is definitely not adding up.

edit: this is all assuming you are running the US standard 110/120......I wouldn't expect the compressor to kick on if it was that far under the expected voltage. so honestly, you probably should hire someone to really look into what is going on. If it is starting with only 120VAC then it is pulling way more current at startup than it is rated for and should have tripped those breakers.

The pen colored white wire goes to the right breaker bus, right??? That's not a N lug is it???

Damn if that one 120V hot side was tied to the N bus, holy POOP!!

See I was wondering if it was a bus also, but it wouldn't make sense to have a bus for 1 breaker. Also there would be nowhere for the neutral to land.

There is room for the other leg on the left, it's just the way the picture is.

OP can you get a picture straight on?

    I don't think this box has a N bus.

    Is your system not functioning?
Do you have a safety concern?

Per NEC 440 if your HVAC has a large inrush you are allowed to up size your breaker.

please watch this video and if you don’t feel qualified to make a decision call a professional.

There is no neutral used in this circuit. Certainly looks like they are only using 1 leg (120v) and landed the other leg on that Neutral lug that doesn’t appear to be bonded.

Soggy, get a certified HVAC or Electrician out to look at it.

I don't think he is having a problem. System works for him and previous owner. He was just asking about wire and breaker sizing.

He has 220-240V (I have to believe on both sides of the breaker)

I don't see how he could be on the N lug and have 240V on the protected side of the breaker.

Need OP to weigh in again, plus a better picture.

The AC works fine. I measured the red/back at the same voltage

It works fine. I was worried that the wire was too small for the 50 amp breaker.

Doesn't help there has been an oak barrel planter sitting on each corner for idk how long, draining on the beams.

Does your house foundation under the roofed area there come up to underside of deck joists ? Just curious if you could eliminate the deck structure completely and do an infilled patio
