I'm guessing with the purdy beams that it's going to be an open design under the roof (sorry my terminology is horrible for this stuff). The shingles will continue out from the main house on sheathing, but underneath are they doing a wood soffit type look? Possibly some lighting etc in there?

I didn't put that much thought into mine. My grandfather was a civil engineer and had the same setup in his garage. I just copied his design. I can do pull-ups and store pretty much whatever up there. :notsure:

Thing is here shit grows no matter what.

This will be our only “lawn“ the back is just mowed wild field grass.

Looking forward to hearing the sprinklers come on at odd hours. Plus the cooling effect in the summer

They don't have to be dedicated. You can wet vent a shower off the toilet.

Yeh that's what they did 80 years ago. Sink, toilet, tub all on one vent. Never had any issues with gurgling or slow draining.

It was legal until sometime in the early 90's. Then UPC made it illegal. Then they wised back up in 2005 and made it legal again. The only way that vent stops working is if there's a blockage in the main line going to the toilet. In that case the shower is the lowest point so it overfills WAY before any other fixture. It's retarded not to have it legal. lol

So I live under a canopy of oak trees, should I put a chimney type cap or screen on the vent top to prevent acorns and leaves from getting in there?

I'd put some kind of screen over it. The only time I ever had a blocked vent it ended up being a squirrel nest about 12" down the pipe from the roof. lol

The timbers in that area are over a deck that will have most of the roof area there as glass panels with some soffit as well . The rest of the roofing is standing seam metal and the southern roof exposure will have a 9KW solar pv array

I have a house that has been in the family for 63 years -- only once (around the 50 year mark) a bird built a nest in the un-screened vent line.

Fortunately there is a clean out plug at the master trap in the basement, after quite an ordeal to remove it for the first time in over 1/2 a century I pulled an impressive amount of twigs out and we were good to go. ;)

Haha! Yeah I drew that at the stop lights on the way home from work. Didn't have access to my Crayolas.
Yes WYEs are required for the drain lines, I guess it promotes better turd flow.

i would break out that first 90 at the top of the tee going through the wall and change to pvc from there.

i'd also re-plumb the shower to not have so many verticals...

you've really got 2 options if you pull apart the 90. either you need to cut the flange off, or you need to re-pack the pvc into the cast iron.

i had to do the second option when i re-did my bathroom, as the cast iron ran straight up for a vent-- which would require major roof work.

when i re-did my bathroom, at the advice of a plumber friend, i used black swan soil-o as a lead substitute to re-pack my new pvc pipe into the existing cast iron. most local plumbing shops stock it.
    https://www.blackswanmfg.com/Category-04/Soil-O.HTML

it's held fine for the past 6 years...
