That was built from some left over cedar that we built a greenhouse sunroom out of. Routing the holes for the glass was a real pain. I think it took about 5 to get one that wouldnt snap on me. I think that was white cedar and dented scratched very easily.

    Looks great Joshua!

I made a couple trivet's for the MIL for xmas from some left over pine.

I don't have a router, so had to use my circular saw to cut out the notch where the tile sits.

Yeah white cedar is an east coast species I'm pretty certain , yellow cedar grows out here on the coast , it's not as soft as western red cedar or at least these boards I have aren't

You'll end up buying it, and by the time you want to get the new color panels and change it up......it will have been discontinued.

Congrats. A piece of advice; give it a whole year before you go for anything major. After two houses, I find that I go in with 3 million ideas. After 1 year of practical living (and the house telling you what to do, rather than what you would like to do), those ideas will change as you learn more about your house, and as other unseen issues arise that could affect or undo some of your pet projects. It makes sense financially and for your time and effort.

How old is the house? Do you have any experience landscaping? I did a ton at my old place. Now I miss it.

Bought a house this year. Been living in it a while, and I've slowly been trying to get through some of the small stuff, so I can work on larger projects that I want.

Recently got up in the attic to check all of our ventilation since the air didn't seem to blow in half the house and the a/c and heater both ran constantly...never able to keep up. Discovered all three primary ducts were barely connected to the main housing. Had half inch gaps heating and cooling the attic. Set the ducting and sealed them up real nice.

I need to figure out how to drain the water heater without flooding my house. The hose connection seems to leak everywhere when I try to open it up. It leaks behind the part I'm supposed to turn. Stupid plastic is probably bad. I'm sure I'll just have to wait and let this water heater die of sediment and hard water.

We've painted half the house. I have to go back and paint all of the trim and around the windows.

Have a crap ton of cedar trees in the yard I plan on cutting down as well. I don't need them sucking up all my well water.

Other than that, the solitude out where I live is great!

Oh, all of this while we are planning on our first kid coming this April :-D

For myself, I would tend to stay away from anything that's too trendy or radically colored as it can become dated quickly. Being able to change it though is a good design as long as they keep making the panels. I like the slate.

Good advice. I would also add, stick to one project until it's done. If you skip some stuff in the hopes of doing it later you'll wind up with a ton of little crap jobs that keep adding up.

We are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and went with the GE slate appliances. GE had a sale on almost all of the appliances, except slate. However Home Depot had the three appliances we needed on sale plus my neighbor got us an extra 10% off with his HD discount. He is some type of regional quality control manager. We also got an extra $50 off because two of the appliances cost more than $500.

Delivery will be on December 31st and the work should start in the middle of January. We have a second meeting with the kitchen designer either this Friday or the following Thursday.

The last time I did the kitchen, 25 years ago I did a lot of the work and was the construction foreman, LOL. This time I am staying out of the way and letting a trusted contractor do the work and coordinate the trades.

isn't there a hose spigot on the water heater? IIRC you are supposed to drain the water heater periodically to flush out sediment and stuff

I just redid my kitchen. Ended up costing 8000 bucks for granite counter tops, new cabinets and all stainless steel appliance. The only thing I haven't bought yet is a new fridge/Freezer

That is a lot of countertop space. We are going with a quartz countertop.

I was told by the CFO that I have 35K for the project. I think I can achieve the goal and still have a nice kitchen. I basically have a galley kitchen that is 11'X26'.

This is correct. I'm pretty sure this water heater was never serviced before we moved in.
