My uncle who is an electrician was the one who pointed it out. After buying the house he added a fan for us and pointed it out and thought it was funny that he fixed only the one that the fan switch was on….So I had to go finish the rest of them so I could enjoy living in my house

the electrical equivalent to a body guy seeing bondo on a fender before he takes off the wheel well liner...

it was one of the first service tools i taught new guys. if the last guy couldn't be bothered to pay attention to the one detail that faces the customer, it's all but guaranteed they limp-wristed the terminal screws as well.

things went well with most apprentices except for the few that got confused when i said 'limp-wrist'...

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
    Progress update on the deck.

As mentioned I'm replacing an older deck with a new one. 7×16 to 10×22. I have the finishing boards to do, the decking then the stairs. Finally I selected black metal railing systems. I hope to be done in a few days.

Edit: No I did not look up if 4 6x6 posts 3 feet deep with 12 inch circumstance concrete was code. It's most likely over built anyway. Soil is compressed and solid here.

I did the style that gets an anchor bolt through the dried concrete and hate it. Would have rather had my post in the concrete for the next 20 years tbh. My 6x6 posts are now twisted like crazy

Next time they'll either go in the concrete or do one of the standoffs with the tie below the surface

Yes, the metal mounting bracket in this case has a plate you stick over the bolt that attaches the bracket to the concrete. The plate raises the bottom of the 6x6 1 inch off the bottom of the bracket where the bolt is.

Which makes for easy install and better water protection.

Thank you for the heads up on this. I suspected this might be a problem down the road. I wonder why the anchor only had one bolt? In light of your comment I wonder if adding a second smaller anchor to each bracket would prevent the twisting. Perhaps the next TW deck builder can learn from this dialog.

My brother showed me that incongruity. Curses to him and all of his wall plates!!! The most frustrating thing for me though? Invariably, once you touch one of those screws with a flat blade it chips some of the paint off. Now I have to replace screws............ :frusty:

It's how the bracket was designed. Just some crap from HD. My posts are much taller than yours too though

Those are nice the guy who helped me with my deck framing 23 years ago soaked the ends in roofing tar / black mastic 2" up on treated lumber, still in great shape sat an concrete. He was a young guy starting out then . Now he has a small construction business. He went from decks to roofing to anything now.

I got a couple doors replaced for a guy , these have composite frames and fiberglass doors it turned out good I think. The original contractor broke the brickmold on one side of the left hand door because he had used a piece of bent j trim 20 yrs ago. I ordered the replacements with brickmold loose.as the original doors frames were 3/8" shorter, rough opening fit this allowed me to tweak any margins to fit. I had to cut the left outside of the sill a quarter inch to deal with mess of the original siding crew. . The frames let me give him a maintenance free outside without touching any of the existing siding. , the window the right flanked had foggy glass I replaced just the glass the manufacturer of it was purchased by a different company so no sash replacement was available. I noticed the ends of the window when built, didn't have joint sealed at the meeting of the transom when it was built so I sealed the ends of that also. The patio door next to it had a transom also but it had been done. The guy was happy when I finished. I didn't think to take before pics.
