Renewal by Anderson, full install, but still...
Funny, we hit a certain mark that unlocked a 25% discount that brought it down to ~34k. Didn't really like the person who came to give the quote either. Felt like she had better things to do then her fu*cking job. So sad.

Now looking into a small local company. I'd rather support small biz at that price anyway.

Not sure if windura is in your area or if they do doors but they did our windows last year and were great to deal with. Only say that because we had Anderson come quote them too.

They came out to quote 7 small crank/awning style windows along the front of the house and we got a quote of like 28k and that was after we also magically hit a discount threshold. Quotes from Pella was low 20s and low company was high teens.

I’m not trying to start shit or anything, but I’m curious how a split foyer breaker box is installed nowadays. Is it in the house? If in the garage, how are they installed on the garage wall with conduit?

    Again, I’m not an electrician!

Inside the garage I wouldn't be as concerned as an exterior wall. A lot of moving components on that garage door close by though.

Now that I've had the Rachio for a full month, I was curios as to how much it's saved me so far. Keep in mind these are a complete guess as to some of the numbers but should be accurate enough for this exercise.

I have four zones that each have four rotor heads. Average GMP x head quantity x run time = about 300 gallons/zone/watering session.

I have three zones with about 13 spray heads. Average GPM x head quantity x run time = 300 gallons/zone/watering session.

I have one zone with about 100 drip heads. Average GPM x head quantity x run time = 150 gallons.

Total comes out to 2,250 gallons. The email I receive when it's not going to water says 2,700 gallons but we'll use my more conservative number.

    It waters every odd day.

My cost for water is $4.90/1,000 gallons, or $11 per session.

The controller proactively (it hadn't started raining yet but it was going to) didn't water 5 days this month, saving over 10,000 gallons of water and $55.

The controller cost me $130, so it's over 1/3 paid for itself already.

    In the first month.

lol, i'm going off of only the material you linked. look at what they're highlighting for what needs to be protected , then look at the panel in the picture.

and i'll quote your link, just for fun as well:
can you define "where necessary"? because i can. it's up to the AHJ. and most AHJ's don't require protection on the wires going into the panel, as the distance down out of the joists to the top of the panel and location is not typically subject to risk of damage, because most houses will have no more than 3' of exposed romex going towards the top of the panel, but it is typically 6' or higher from the floor, minimizing the damage risk. many AHJ's will require plywood to be installed to the wall in the space above panels, and the romex stapled down to the panel so that it's not 'flying', and impact risk is further minimized-- but it also makes the job look more professional, so myself included, always just do/did it that way to minimize issues, as well as make it look purdy.

but for outlets, wells, or other devices, while no NEC standard exists for standard mounting heights, they're typically 12"-48" off the floor. in a typical 8-10' ceiling basement, that means that there's going to be 4-9 feet of exposed romex running down the wall, and because it's usage equipment, it's far more likely to be in an area with activity in it, where the panels are almost always stuffed in equipment area's with limited access. this further increases the risk of damage to the device wires, which is why, in the picture you linked to, the panel wires aren't protected, but the wire to the lower outlet is.

but it depends entirely on the AHJ.

what i didn't know from that link was that code didn't require bushing the conduit until the newest code revision. the majority of contractors and inspectors in my area have required it all the way back since the 2018 code, due to the very real hazard of chafing. i had just never bothered to look it up, i just always bushed the wires entering the sleeve to meet AHJ, boss, and common sense requirements.

that said, the installation as-pictured would fail my local area at least 2 other ways. they don't show the ceiling joists, but by the code they're trying to demonstrate, all the wires stapled along the board horizontally need to be in conduit as well to be protected from damage--there's no height specification, only "as required". most real-world installations get around this by running within the ceiling joists, and dropping down the wall only where the conduit is. otherwise it's easier to just skip the romex, and run standard wiring within conduit.

the second way it would fail is that it's two standard duplex outlets right next to a sink. they can officially be protected by a gfci breaker, but need to have a label on the outlet cover to indicate protection. that's not evident in their picture.

irony is a lot less fun when i need to explain it.

Back to this fun! Revived 3 quotes:
    1) $1,683 extending 4 electrical lines.
    2) $1,435 extending 4 electrical lines
    3) $1,368 extending 4 electrical lines and relocating the pvc for the sink vent.

seems like a no brainer. Hope we don’t find more BS in there when I completely tear out the soffit!

Why not just J-Box in an area that will be accessible (inside the cabinet) and just extend the wires. Those prices seem high for what seems like a couple hours work.

Roof sheeting, insulation and the rest of interior wall sheeting showed up. Should be able to get roof sheeting done by Monday. Finished woodshed today, waiting on floor to dry to fill it up.

x2 on adding a junction box and extending the romex wire yourself. With those prices I should change careers.

Those prices are a 40hr week for a union electrician or plumber wages.

Yeah. With twin boys at home I think I need someone that can do those things faster than I can. I was really posting here to see if there were folks out there that could confirm that was sort of the going rate.

Trades are getting ridiculously expensive. The guy who repaired a leak on my boiler was $100 an hour and charged a minimum $200 service call charge o_O
