Here's something that will make everyone cringe. I finally got a roof over the newest bin on the woodshed, so now I have 4 cords that are covered.

This is my basic "pallet" construction with the last of the cedar post fencing materials that I scavenged from a neighbor a few years ago when they had a new fence installed. The typical purlins were not used, since this only keeping rain and occasional light snow off of the wood. 2 Long stringers ( front and back) with 3 "joists" ( for lack of a better term) then staggered boxing between that.

I snapped a line then used a demo blade to trim the front overhang. It would have been a major PIA to trim from the backside.
Good enough for what I need it to do.

Bought a cheap door at the used door store. Three of the four recessed panels have shrunken, leaving a gap across the top edge of the panel. Worst one is shown in the second photo, it’s about a quarter inch gap.

Any ideas for an easy way to plug it? We’re going to paint the door so it doesn’t need to be pretty.

So far I’m leaning towards just trying to rip a piece of scrap wood to fit and gluing it in.

Insulation sucks. It's like a test of your will.

FYI. Did you know? The insulating value of wood, by itself is 1.4 per inch to achieve an R value of 1. So, you would need some thick walls to maintain a constant temperature.

Or did it slide down? Is there a way to reposition the panel centered? I don't know, just trying to think this through...

I guess you don’t get snow where you live. I imagine it wouldn’t take too much wet snow to bend that overhang down, unsupported as it is.

Possibly. They don’t feel rattley-loose at all but I haven’t tried moving them with any appreciable effort. I’ll give that a shot after work tonight.

I would just use a paint-compatible caulk. No need to get fancy if you're not trying to keep the wood grain visible.

Replaced a burnt 12V ceiling light with a new one from HD, identical swap so used existing hanging hardware which made it easier, set the lighting on 5K bright.

Replaced outlet receptical and vinyl plate, replaced single switch and plate, and replaced triple switch and plate one being a 3-way. It feels better and looks better.

Reason I did this was that the switch in the hallway was worn in the triple switch and caused the light in the family room to flicker when the hallway light was switched on.

    Finishing the basement -
When I was a kid I used to build model airplanes. The kits were basically a bunch of balsa sticks and a plan. Seems nothing has changed in my life except the sticks are bigger.

Ever since I moved into this house I've wanted to make this cold storage room my shop. It's a beginning.

Standing. Now I can put up plastic to try to keep the construction dust off our stuff.

And FUCK! :annoyed:That laser line is on the lowest point of the ductwork and the door was installed by the builder. I don't even have a fraction of an inch for drywall.
    duct door.jpg

I always knew this was going to be a problem, but I put it off for future me. The project is dead in the water while I get bids from HVAC companies to put in new, skinnier ductwork. Fun$$$

X3. We just finished ours and I've been cutting doors.

You'll also have to figure out how to support the drywall under the duct so expect some height loss there too. We did 2x4s laying flat

If the ductwork is 24” or narrower, you could frame the outer edges with 2x4s and span the area. Probably want a moisture barrier between though. I would also cut the bottom of the door 1/2 to 3/4”.

Saved myself a lot of headache when I did my basement by not using drywall and paining the ceilings and ducts black. Looks great and don’t have to worry about things like this.

I'm a tall guy so I want every inch I can get. And, most importantly, the wife vetoed the idea of cutting the doors. We will see what she says when the bids come in. I briefly entertained the thought of tearing out the entire forced air system and going with a ductless heat pump mini split system. I got one quote at $30K and promptly dropped that idea.

I've worked on a number of commercial builds where they did just that, paint everything black and call it good. I don't mind the look, but not the vibe I'm after.
