I've had True Temper in the past, they were okay. I know it's just a shovel but I get satisfaction out of quality manual tools. I don't know why.. was just hoping for something made in the US by a company that doesn't suck and makes tools that don't suck, and know how to actually fit a handle.

I'm a little surprised you prefer fiberglass. I have a hard time breaking away from hickory and carbon steel, but I do sand down the varnish from all the wood handled implements I use and give them a good sanding, then coat with BLO. Much better, IMO.

We have the same soil, you should know that! It's 90% clay and 10% fucking misery.

It's a fucking shovel . Buy a decent one and when it breaks in a couple years cut the handle into firewood and give the head to Fred Sanford and buy a new one .

Toilet paper rolls are disposable, good hand tools are not so much.

Was it an Ames, or just True Temper?

I just remember finding some that said Ames and they were stout and made in USA. I think I have also seen lower grade True Tempers that had shitty blades.

I have no time for refinishing hand tools, other than cleaning them and sharpening blades. I took pause with fiberglass, too, but the weight and strength are good, and I had a shit ton to do...

Entire back yard was regraded to bare earth with a bobcat. This is just after finishing...water supply, five zones of irrigationon, drainage, underground electrical to garage, fortress gate...

Prices are actually pretty reasonable considering

Damn, sweet backyard space. That gate is awesome.

I "think" it was a True Temper, not an Ames. I'm 99% sure it came from an Ace Hardware.

Prices were great, I'm just a sucker for rustable tempered steel and wood that dries out and cracks.

Hence the quest for the ultimate crappy shovel that will last a lifetime

I miss the fuck out of it. The new yard is just several decades worth of ill-informed decisions, lack of vision, and poor execution.

Go to the store, stick the shovel tip under a pallet rack, and then jump up and down on the handle. If it doesn't break, buy it. If it does break...run away.

I have a titanium-handled shovel with a carbide blade I'll be happy to sell you.

Just paypal me $500 first. I'll wrap it up when I get home.

Bigger house, 2-car garage, better location/hood, growing family. That one was a starter, and I put too much into it, but I got a lot of practice...:D

    Nice trade then.

How's the pregnancy coming anyway, when is she due? I feel like it was a month ago when we got pregnant, and it's been 5 months already, time is flying. Way too fast.
