One more job checked off the list

I had to make and install a handrail to go down to my dining room that wraps around the 14" DFir post at the bottom of the stairs

Any one with a keen eye might pick out that we ran a couple dark travertine strips in each stone stair nosing here to mimic the black walnut nosings on my curved DFir / Black Walnut stairs

There are 5 of them in the house

They are posts in my post and beam system . The posts are 14" turned , and the beams are 8x14" . I decided to go with turned posts because my house is a bit of an odd shape believe it or not , it's basically an L shape but instead of the L having a single 90 degree bend , it goes 30 / 60 , so where the timbers meet at these points there was no way to have the timbers land on a square or even rectangular post without some post hanging out here or beam not flush there . I came up with the round post idea , with the posts going all the way to the ceiling and the timber ends are housed in notches , therefore as the post is round , the beams can terminate at the centre of the post and even though they arrive and depart at different angles it doesn't matter , the round post houses the whole connection

    I like my Makita

I've run heavy mineral oil instead of chain oil in it since new as well because it doesn't stain the wood . You should see the looks I get from the cashiers at the Pharmacy when I come up to the counter with a couple litres of it . It's other use is as a laxative , lol

Totally filled with dead relative crap. Had both our cars in it 1 time in 2 years. Shop side is filled with projects including a 200 year old hope chest that smell like moth balls. I use my shop at work mostly now . So sad. Wife is a pack rat, although I did run across a set of lotus 7 rims on the mezzanine recently.... I have never owned a lotus, so have no idea how they got there....

Tell them you make cutting boards. It's a foodsafe wood finish.

I'm debating tearing out the walls between my kitchen and living room. They are load bearing so I have to make a header. Or I could put the header above the trusses and hang the trusses from it for a completely open look..... maybe it's time to just move. I'm also looking for a new shop space due to some issues with the current location.
