90% of the costumers I deal with are so picky over the smallest details , I feel I spend more of my time trying to educate them and help them make the right choices so they end up getting a product they are happy with

It's not so much the home owners are clueless. It's the dead beat contractors that don't have a clue what the fuck there doing and only out to make a buck

Something leaks or don't work , That's a call back and time spent going back to a job. , And that's money out of my pocket.

    hidey hole install happening today...

neighbors decided to do theirs today too. paid 3295 for their 3-4 person shelter, ours is a 6-8 and was $500 cheaper.

    the hole...it smelled bad too

please don't hit my door, please don't hit my door, please don't hit my door... lol

underestimated the hole size, had to cut it an extra 2 inches lol

    That's awesome!

Was that the installed price, or just the shelter itself? I'd love to see more pics of it if you don't mind! Wife and I would like something like that in case of sever weather. Saw a tornado on the news in upstate NY last week, and we don't normally get those....

installed. this company includes the jack (in case you're stuck after a tornado) and a bucket of basic supplies (t.p., water, flashlight etc). once finished and concrete is set, I will take more. their shop made it slightly larger than normal specs so they had to pull it back out of the ground and cut the concrete another 5" and dig all the dirt out as well. guy was PO'd cuz he lost his 2nd install for the day. been at it since 8am lol...

Awesome! That's a pretty good price for it installed too! You going to run electric to it too? Something self-contained like batteries and a charging system? Also, do they have a website?

... ^^^ ... I agree with this 99.99% (I never agree with anyone 100% :D ) ... quality has been dropping for a while ... especially in the south, with "lowest dollar labor".

In parts of New England, where there are strong building codes and inspections ... the quality is better. But NE also has some old time builders too.

doesn't do too much good for you up there though lol...doubt I'll run electric to it, probably just keep a bunch of batteries and some hand crank items in there. these shelters get registered with the city, so they know where to look first in case of disaster.

Cool. That makes sense. If your house gets leveled the rescuers know where to look. Assuming those records don't get blown away too. Have you looked into how those records are kept? Would be a shame if they weren't backed up or easily accessible after a disaster. Good idea though!

I need one of those! I get paranoid as shit when tornados come through in the spring time. My house is on a slab with no where to go.

My next house will have a basement for sure.

Question... What do you do with the car? Move it out of the garage if a nader is coming?

I'm also curious how the com-along works. I can see it helping slide the door open, but if shit is stacked up on top enough you can't slide it by hand, might it collapse on you once the door is winched back enough?

    Thats what i figure too...

As far as the car goes, we can park right over it and still have room to get in/out. Garage is just long enough for her car to pull up enough.

No. They gave us a low phone offer to our realtor but never submitted anything official. Never heard from them again.

My wife pointed it out to the people that actually did buy it. As they were leaving, they joked that they were going to get a statue out of their car.
