Is there battery storage or is it just tied to the grid with net metering ?

The shower door will be hinged on the left side and there will be an approx 12" wide fixed panel on the right , the tops will align so that will restore some of the symmetry

 

Oh yeah , people are doing them here , I meant I'm not sure if the ROI makes it work for me

 

Yeah short northern winter days might be an issue , although how far the technology has come with panel's efficiency is pretty amazing..

True, they did a fair amount of tree trimming around house for more exposure to sun....

 

I looked at the options on this stuff earlier this year. Priced the pre-built stuff and what I wanted was going to be well over $2000. Id never built one before but did the research and made my own plans and built it myself. Couple of weekends and it was done. This is an 8'x12' with 8' walls (which makes a HUGE difference) and since it was custom I added a 3 foot overhang on the backside for dry storage. Final cost of everything was just over $1000.

 

While the reduced overall daylight time would have a negative effect, solar panels work more efficiently the cooler they are. The typical panel loses something to the effect of ½% of efficiency for ever degree over 80ºF they get.

We originally bought this place in 1995 , we lived in that house for 12 years or so then took it down to build the new house in the same spot . There were a couple existing outbiildings , one I use as my little shop but I have plans to build a bigger shop at some point at a site in the back of the property

 

you demolished a perfectly good house?... yikes! ...you have a fairly good sized plot of land?..

 

" perfectly good " is a pretty loose term for what was there , it was a 900 sqft place with no proper foundation , independent settling , 3 cobbled together renovations / additions by hippy builders , scary wiring , powder post beetles in the floor joists and posts and no insulation

Yeah , we lived in a 300 sqft shack for almost 2 years while we built the house
