    So update kinda

Slight change of plans caused a timeline alteration

I was struggling to come up with a way to hide the fact that the sloped ceiling grout lines would not line up with the wall grout lines due to the fact that the tiles on the slope cover less vertical height in relation to the wall tile due to the fact they run at a 49 degree angle instead of vertical , and even worse , that the grout lines get progressively worse with each row

I considered a small border around the back wall panel to break the grout lines , didn't really like that , and considered just not worrying about it , didn't really like that , so what I ended up doing was cutting the marble for the sloped ceilings at a larger size so that the grout lines on the slope will align with the wall grout lines .

The wall tile size is 3 3/4 x 12 and the sloped size needed to be 4 7/8+ x 12 . Due to the late call to go this route we couldn't proceed with the slopes yesterday and as I am mud boy , clean up guy and cut man for Yoda during the day , I've been cutting and wet polishing chamfers in the cut edges at night . Last night I was at it till 9:00 which sucked pretty bad especially wet polishing in rain gear while it was 1/2 raining 1/2 snowing and about a 1/2 degree above freezing . We filled in the short side walls and I cut and we installed the door jamb pieces which are 6 3/4 x 11 7/16 to be modular with 3 courses of the wall sizes so the grout lines line up .

We did test some pieces on the slopes and as expected there was sag down the slope but not a tendency to pull away or drop off the ceiling which means we could build up from a secured bottom row but we decided the best way to align the rows and make it easy to secure the sloped tile was to make a jig that will support a row at a time allowing us to work on one side then switch to laying a row on the other side while we allowed the thin set to harden up a bit before removing the jig and moving down a row .

We'll work top down , jig will be screwed to the rafters through the Kerdiboard , screw holes will be filled with KerdiFix before laying the next row .

Yoda is gone for an extended family get together so we're back at it on Tuesday .

Ozt u got skills. And OCD lol that's gone be an amazing shower experience

Bacollier90 I see a heavy duty hammer drill (for rock) and shovel w the handle cut down in your future. A claw hammer is useful for digging in a crawl

I've seen 5 gall buckets used effectively in a sump situation. Drill that sucker full of big holes and cover with some heavy vinyl screen

...well, ...I had a feeling you'd need a ledger/support system for the sloped roof... ;)

BTW, I recall a similar experience i had cutting tile in nasty weather, ...just remember if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger! (...assuming the power cord is in good condition) :D

We actually found that we wouldn't need a ledger to keep the tile from falling off but we wanted to be able to use wedges to align the tile faces

My saw and polisher are set up under a tarp shelter so I'm not in the weather except what drives in the sides but the polisher gets you soaked so it sucks either way

Does this look like water damage?

We have had some rain over the past couple weeks, and now I have these bubbles developing in the closet ceiling of the nursery.

Soft to the touch in an area approx. 10" X 4".

Doesn't feel like any temperature difference on that area compared to the opposite side of the room, so not sure how wet the drywall is (if it's a water leak issue like I'm assuming).

Nothing wrong with this area prior to the rains.

Anybody have a better clue than me?

Looks like a water bubble under the spray texture

Not yet. I saw it right before I posted the pics here, was changing a diaper.

My roof and exterior siding is covered 100% by the HOA and I've already emailed the property manager with pics as well.

They're replacing roofs in phases, haven't got to mine yet. But the more I know, the more I can cover my own ass.

First home. All is relatively new to me.

I put a knife into it with a twist and don't feel any moisture in the hole, which was unexpected. It isn't a bubble the entire length, it's just 2 or 3 smaller bubbles. Jerry rigged a ladder since mine isn't at the house at the moment and don't see anything obvious. Gonna throw some shoes on and get inside the rafters and see if I can see anything up close.

    :notsure:

    I survived.

No obvious sign of moisture anywhere along that wall. Nothing in the roof structure, nothing obvious in the insulation (which now has my arms itching like crazy) and nothing underneath the insulation in that area on the drywall.

There is a 2x4 running alongside that wall of my upstairs that the drywall is screwed into, so I can't exactly see directly to say there's no moisture in the drywall in that specific area.

I'm wondering if it isn't so much a roof leak, and possibly water getting into the siding and finding its way into that spot.

Hoping someone who knows what they're doing is able to come do an inspection.

If it isn't a moisture issue, are there any other causes of bubbling like that?

Google says it can happen to improperly applied paint or new paint that has gotten moisture behind it, which neither applies. This paint is 6-7 months old. Outside of those possibilities, it seems moisture is the only real cause.

I guess I'll hold that idea going forward until an inspection says otherwise.

That kind of bulge is usually water related as you said it could be coming in through the sidewall too , hard to know without being able to see what you're dealing with there

    Thanks.

I had a feeling it was. That's why I cleared some material off the area to see if I could feel any actual water build up, and maybe I read somewhere that it should be a colder temperature to the touch than the roof that is obviously not a wet area.

Both tests failed and seemed good at the time. Our vinyl siding kinda blows, so if it leaks in that area it isn't an enormous surprise.

I agree with everything the two of you have stated about the bubble in the textured ceiling.

OZ sounds like you've had an interesting couple of evenings.

It was a basic builder grade door installed when we built the house 8 years ago and the idiots that installed it basically striped all the holes out with the impact drivers and I could not keep the many of them tight any longer and was at the point of having to put carriage bolts through the panel for the 3 bad hinges....

Thanks, it is such a superior door compared to the old one with solid insulated panels I think a rating of R-19......

I can say nothing but great things about my Liftmasters. They have been trouble free for the last 4 years. I haven't had any issues with the locks. The only con is the lights are an after thought imo.

I have the single led 20v light and it works just fine. I do miss the 18v with the flexible head that you could hang it with.
