Ain't getting my big ass on a roof that high.

But free cable wouldn't be a bad afternoon project.

So we put in about 5 hours today and got the longer sloped side laid up

We started with our grounds , thickness planed to the same thickness as the marble plus our thin set bed and spent some time shimming them so they were all in plane with each other . The grounds are on bond lines so they directly support the panel above from sliding downhill


I had pre cut all the partial pieces yesterday and we laid out the pieces for each panel ahead of time to keep any odd grain or colouring combos out of the equation


The 1"x 1 1/2" beam boards hold the marble while the thin set cures and are just screwed into the plywood grounds . The process for laying up the tile was remove the 1 or 2 beams that would support the piece we were laying up , put the piece onto the wall , replace the beams and move on to the next piece over . Once all pieces in the panel were complete we messed with the spacings where we needed to to align grout lines etc


Repeat the process on the other 2 panels and then we added a strongback on each to ensure there was no sag while everything set up


I'll remove the cribbing in the morning and clean the joints and any excess on the surface and we're likely back at it again Monday

 

Damn I can't wait to see it finished.

Oh yeah , I've seen those before

Lots of guys do a similar thing by pinching the pencil against the tape to swing an arch / mark stud locations when laying out wall plates

 

So bit of an update

We didn't work on Monday at my place , back at it today

Laid out the ceiling tiles and cut out for the recessed light


Rigged up a support system for the ceiling tiles similar to the ledger and beam system we used for the slopes


and removed the sloped ceiling ledgers , used KerdiFix to seal the screw holes in the KerdiBoard , and filled in the rows that were missing . Tiling wedges and some painter's tape holds them till tomorrow

 

PS ~ the Kerdi Board / marble is earthquake proof

 

Got in a part day today , filled in some missing rows , with New Years and the weekend we won't be back at it till likely Tuesday next week

 

You'll be be showering in it some time next year, I predict.
