You're laying bracing for your clients posts. Or your trying to build a octagon.

The octagon scale is on a different part of the square though

 

So basically if anybody didn't know what those numbers are on your rafter square , they are useful for braces or squaring for that matter , they are just an offset from the corner , in my case 30" and 30" and the hypotenuse , 42.43"

 

Was there ever a time when you'd use Metric units instead of Imperial units for construction? The US building codes are trending toward metric but we aren't there yet.

 

Me personally , no , there is metric in construction up here but not too much in residential carpentry work although the codes are all in metric

So you knew what the brace scale on the framing square was ? You should have posted up

My main rafter square is square , I'm pretty sure its made in the US , I'll have to double check tomorrow but not that it matters , it's square
