I generally check my framing square not before every use, but about every so often or if I haven't used it in awhile. I do use this procedure for checking them. I like my Craftsman but I also have a old Stanley steel one that is a little beat up but square.

Hey Joshua , you might find this useful , I picked this up at my lumber yard last week , it was cheap and is a great saw blade tote for taking blades to or from the site safely , plus you can put "to be sharpened" on one side and new on the other , holds up to 12" blades

I want one. I am keeping mine in their plastic blister packs stacked on a shelf and I hate it. What's the name on that? Exchange-A-Blade?

Depends if you put more than one in each pocket . Half dozen a side pretty easily

I'll post a pic of it open

Carrying on with my timber gig

Set up the router with a template collar to rout some mortises in the posts and beams

Made up a mortise jig and tried it out on a cut off of the beam material

The router leaves a mortise with rounded corners

Got to use my 1" Sorby corner chisel to square up the mortise corners , loved it

Used the tablesaw to cut the cheek cuts for the brace tenons

Used a circular saw to finsh the top and bottom cuts of the tenons

    That left me this

Test fit into that timber scrap I used the mortise jig on , good fit , snug but not too tight

Tomorrow I rout the mortises in the posts and then try to figure out how I'm going to manhandle the beams

Very nice, I'd love to do some timber framing, not very popular here. I did do a greenhouse/sunroom with cedar 6x6 and 8x6 10 years ago sadly no clue where the pictures are.

    No glue

The mortise and tenon joint is basically to align the pieces at assembly and as they twist / shrink but they do provide some lateral restraint and prevent racking . There will be a single or possibly 2 GRK RSS structural screws in the connection and plugged . The roof is top heavy with concrete tile and we're in Canada's highest seismic zone

I was assuming adhesive because they appear to be stub tenons, ...would presume a longer tenon would facilitate a thru-hole immobilization via a lag bolt or similar...
