Thanks man. I'm a nurse by trade but like doing projects and construction around the house and yard. I've learned to do pretty much everything over the years from plumbing and electrical to framing and cabinets. It may take me forever and nothing is every perfect but I like doing it.

Just the garage to house door needs to be fire rated. All other exterior doors can be wood, etc.

If you pull a permit for the work, you'll need to be up to code. If you're not into paying for permits, just replace the door leaf(s). ;)

Bought my house as a foreclosure and didn't really have a choice, it needed updating as well as emergency repairs and i didn't have 100k to throw at it. I've built it all back up from the studs, little at a time. I'm a land surveyor but fortunately i work for an architectural, engineering and surveying firm so any questions i have i can always get an answer in the morning. That def has helped! On top of that i'm a perfectionist so i can't leave any project unless it looks totally satisfactory to me, sometimes thats meant ripping it down and doing it all over again! lol......looking at your cuts on the deck, and knowing how difficult it is to get them tight like that, i'd say your doing pretty good!

More of a Maintenance to improve the house.... Cleaned Condenser, evaporator coils replaced contractor as it was very pitted on the contacts and replace both the compressor and fan capacitors on the A/C system... Actually improved the FLA by 2.1 amps on the compressor and 2.4 amps on start up...

Sorry if I'm doing this here:

    :threadjacked:

But have a quick question to which I couldn't find an appropriate thread to post in. Does have to do with "home improvement", sort of. It's actually more of a landscaping question, more precisely about lawn mowing/commercial walk behind mowers. Any one here familiar with that type of machinery? Have a question I'd like to post and see if I could get some suggestions/tips/ideas.

We have a wood deck attached to our addition and I want to add to it so that it connects down to a cement pad.

I do not think I can pull the monetary trigger on using composite decking, so my question is...best process and product to stain/protect natural wood?

Would it be best to treat entire board with 360 degree coverage before cutting and installing? This is a timely process, but if it's worth it I will as we plan on being in this home a long time.

    Here goes.

I have a 48" Lesco Commercial Plus hydraulic walk behind. This past weekend, after I cut my grass, I noticed it left a "line" in the middle of the path instead of just the usual two "lines" it leaves from the wheels. Hope that made sense.

Trying to figure out why that line in the middle was there. The blades are all set at the same height, they are not bend or anything like that, and when I turn them all it seems like they're all turning (you can see the bolts spinning at the top of the deck and I peeked under through the shoot opening).

Any ideas/suggestions?! I can't seem to figure it out.

$23k, expected break even point should be around the 15 year mark.

$23k pre-subsidies? Isn't federal government giving tax credits on these?

Yes, pre-tax credit. 30% tax credit from the feds.

    We have a tier system:
    Tier 1 - $0.15
    Tier 2 - $0.21
    Tier 3 - $0.24
    Tier 4 - $0.30

We almost always run up into tier 4 territory.

One of three major factors in the decision was the utility prices. Another was environmental responsibility and the last is I just really like the idea of generating electricity from the same source that makes all life possible.
