I scavenged and refurbished an evaporative cooler for use on my shop. Everything is ready to go on it except for the duct work. All I need it to do is come out the bottom of the cooler and terminate just inside of the shop wall. Three feet of 17" ducting at most. I had an HVAC company come out to take some measurements and they came back with an estimate for $1050.00. I could buy my own press brake and all the materials and do it myself for less than half of that, which is what I might do.

 

Being such a small job they might have bid themselves high just to not get the job.

My brother is trying to have a garage built and is running into that problem. Basically one of three things happens. One the company just say no to the job over the phone. Two the company comes and looks at the job and bids and says expect up to a year wait. Or three the company just puts a ridiculously high bid out.

 

Bidding high to avoid the job was my first thought.

 

Whenever I have contractor work done, after I get the estimate, I ask what the cash price is. The cash price is always lower

Real hard to take cash when you have employees, and subs. If it's over 1k not happening.

I don't know offhand the fire rating. It's cement board so I'd imagine its high, my picture is going to house a big Green egg, so it's not going to see high direct heat.

Yeah those are nice, I have an incra tablesaw crosscut thing that has stuff like that. And next cross cut sled I build I want to add some hold Downsome and stops.

I'm building a workshop/shed, using 3/4" T&G CDX for the floor.
The CDX is a bit out of square.

How far out is it if you do a cross square ?

Yes, 106-7/8" and 107-1/8".
I made it work but I've never seen that before.

Every one, I called the lumber yard and asked if they were having other contractors with same issue and I am the first apparently.
I thought, at first maybe my chalk line bowed when I snapped it but no.
