No , its going to be a cedar privacy fence , but it's 10' tall and there is a high ground water level , most of the 3' deep holes are 1/2 full of water already and we're in our 2nd year of a drought

I didn't want to put any wood in the ground so I came up with this , I'm going to do essentially a 24" scarf joint where the 2"x24" piece of steel that is exposed will tenon into the middle 1/3 of the 6"x6" cedar post and through bolted using the holes drilled in the steel posts

My question as well. Bare structural steel inside concrete in a wet location does not lend itself to a long life span. An epoxy coating like is required on buried steel propane/gas lines would be ideal.

Yes they are getting coated with an industrial marine paint and the steel will outlast wood , I had pressure treated posts rot off in about 10 years in another location here on the property

I considered adding Xypex to the concrete still might look into that

Crystalline waterproofing additive certainly wouldn't hurt and I'd do it. We add it a lot here in Las Vegas because ground water can be close to the surface.

Redid my mom's cedar deck in 09 with pt. It's not loozing good at all. Framing is the old arsenic lumber from late 70s early 80s and still in great shape. The new pressure treated scares me.

Yeah up here we've had lots of issues with the ACQ treated eating galvanized hardware including ZMax hardware to the point that building inspection in our jurisdiction calls for stainless hardware with treated lumber in any application where the lumber is subject to "re-wetting" like in a deck framing application without a waterproof decking material

Same here on the opposite coast.

My neighbor (painter) still has many metal 5 gallon buckets of the stuff in his barn as well as many other type of oil preservatives that I'm guessing are now all illegal as well.

Probably why the barn & house (built in 1776) are still standing!

I bought a few creosote timbers about 15 years ago to repair a retaining wall on an old house , we were using a chainsaw to cut them , at any rate I ended up with a bunch of sawdust caught in the cuff of my wool socks from a morning of cutting and by lunch realized the sawdust had burned my skin in a ring around each leg at the top of the sock , all the top layers of skin peeled off in the shower that night

Send him a message with your location. You can order directly from him if not. It's a newer company in north America from what I understood. There flashing tape is awesome.

Ugh. That's pretty bad. I tend to instantly get tar in my arm/leg hair no matter what I do.

No more taco life for me
    not really home improvement

but planning on making a bed platform for the dogs to stand on and so i can store stuff under it

with a single 4x8 3/4 i can cover the bed

    thinking of the legs/support

on each corner i was considering either
    A) two 2" stands that meet in the corner, made from 3/4 plywood, like these |_ _|
    B) single 2x4 post each corner

any thoughts if option A would be insufficient? dogs I don't worry about to much, but with two dogs and camping gear (cooler etc) i don't want to worry about legs breaking.
