The running total that's just in the truck some days is insane. And that's why I don't do cheap work.

Added some peg board to the garage, just need some hooks now. Almost done with my work space, other than a vice. (pay no attention to the mess )

Ticked another pre-winter job off my list

Long version ~ we have a small 3 piece bathroom on our main floor that has a marble floor . The only heating in there is an electric kick space heater . My wife mentioned a few times over the last winter that we should have run a hydronic zone to this bathroom when we did the rest of the house but the reason we didn't was that this loop would be so much shorter than the rest and I just didn't really think we were going to need it in such a small room that backs onto our interior masonry chimney and gains some free radiant heat from it when the woodstove is going .

The "crawlspace" ( actually inside the conditioned space ) is accessible so when my plumber friend was over to do the finish on our ensuite we added a heating loop under this floor that ties off of our dining room loop which is the zone that comes on with the most consistentcy because it is remote from our woodstove and the thermostat is unaffected by the woodstove heat .

I insulated under the piping with some Roxul I had and stopped at my local lumber yard to grab some Simpson insulation supports ( basically a wire you jab into the joists on either side which holds up the insulation ) but they were out so I fashioned my own from some VG Fir rippings I had haha

    TL/DR ~ Macgyver

I've been renovating a spare bedroom/office and I'm installing new window (Andersen 400 series D/H) tomorrow. My house has those western red cedar grooved shakes (pre-primed) with that cedar breather fiber board under each course. Pretty easy to install. There are no sills or trim around the windows, so the shakes simply abutt the window frame. I just pre-painted the abutting edges on the shakes so I won't have to cut in along the exterior window frame.....makes painting so much quicker.

New window installed. R/O was perfect. I was surprised being an older house (60's).

Just a couple of coats of paint needed to button up the exterior. Trimming out interior early next week.

    Thanks...helps that they're all square.

Expensive at $100 per box (50 sq ft).

I can do generally do two windows or doors with one box.

Been renovating room by room and replacing doors and windows as I go.

Thanks Chris - feels great to get it done. Especially with bird & duck season starting in 3 weeks....and of course fall fly-fishing!

I'm lucky that my local lumber yard (not Home Cheapo or Lowe's) stocks them.

Already got the interior trim material finished. Using 1x for extensions (lucked out as it's 3/4") and stool and 3 1/2" casing for skirt & casing. White piece is a shoe for the baseboard.

and on this week's episode of Lumber Hoarders .....

While cleaning out a shed before winter , Pete discovered about $2K worth of clear , bone-dry , fine grain , full 2" Western Red Cedar planks he forgot he stuck in there over 8 years ago .

He may have to admit he has a problem .
