I cut a tree down just so I'd ahve some wood to burn in the firepit. There was a birds nest in the tree, and the birds were shitting on my lawn cahirs anyway.

looks like it is about time to put down some sod. Your home improvements are really coming along.

Items on my recently completed list...
    Bondo'd up my front door
    Painted front door
    Painted front of my house
    Install mailbox
    Re-Plumbed my bathtub
    Re-Sheetrocked my closet
    Re-Floored my closet
Scraped paint off of 36 glass panes

    Planted a front garden

Still on my to do list is to clean my garage :( and to clean my gutters :(

I'll be sure to post up some pictures when my plants start springing to life.

i really have to stop putting it off but i have to paint my whole house. everything is white... the walls, the moulding, the mantles, the doors...

i will be be stripping the mantles today actually... there is about 5 layers of paint on some real nice oak (i can see the grain where the paint is chipping)

yeah, I don't know what happened to me...I'm normally such a slacker. Maybe my wife's nagging just got too good for me...

There were a lot of things that were all waiting for the front of the house to be painted, once we got that done, there were no more excuses. We're having Easter at my house, so we try to get some home improvements done before all the guests come over.

The doorbell was a fire hazard waiting to happen, so I disconnected it. The bathtub supply line rusted through, and rotted the floor in my closet. I finally got around to fixing those things after about 2 years.

Thanks, I am a display engineer for Gillette. I have been doing this kind of side work for about 6 yrs. I started the project last June. Early in this thread I think I have pics of what it looked like in the beginning. The only thing I hired out was the flat concrete work under the deck. I rented an excavator to dig the footer, rented forms for all the walls. I had the Architect design the wall so that it would be able to handle and addition later on if I wanted to add to the house.

before I bought this house I lived in a 1922 rehab.. Lots of REALLY nice wood under about the same number of layers you have. It was a pain in the ass to take all the layers off but after I was done it was well worth it.

Post some pics when your done. I love natural wood work.

Kris - your deck looks & storage area/workshop looks awesome! :woot: what a before & after!! Nice job!

lsocoee- that is quite a "to done list" :D

Brian - Is your fire pit in the ground or on top one? My old place I was able to have a in the ground one. Now my neighbors would freak

I took out some trees before winter to make way for a studio, now I'm not sure about what to do with home improvements due to airport buying plans. My neighbor owns a tree business, brought in his crew to help take out 20 trees on my lot that wasn't treed properly when developed. it was pretty cool to watch the how they take whole trees out lifting them over your house :goingcrazy:

will do... i actually have a pretty sweet setup going on... my landlord is paying me to do all the repairs.

i'm getting 4 months free rent for the painting

and he just payed me about 170 to patch up some concrete at his house and put in a new railing to his basement (insurance stuff he had to get done real quick)

Thanks for the compliment Homer. I wish I had more creative skills. I just look at tons of different stuff and mold them into mine.

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
I rent, but since we've been there for 5 years and the landlord keeps the rent cheap, we do stuff, mostly in the back yard. My Wife planted tomatoes, beans, corn, and taters. We have one of those back yard "Chimeneas" -those large pottery fire pit things that looks like a giant vase. Since I'm a tad nervous about sparks flying out of the top and front, I welded a frame up the sides of the stand that has a closing door with mesh to cover the front. I also welded together a metal chimney for it.

Also fixed the rotten door to the garage. Someday we'll buy our own place, but man oh man I'm not looking forward to actually having to pay for repairs.
