Awhile ago someone built a peice of furniture and claimed they created a new wood working joint. they didn't. you can't reinvent homebuilding, you can update practices, and materials. have you heard of gtapes? it's nonasphalt based flashing and sealing tape, plus a line of masking and other tapes

...well, finally back to this project, ..in the home stretch!!! with both columns painted and installed, ...i really just need to do the cornices to top them off, some trim molding at the bases and install the LED cove lighting...

...had my fill of doing frame-n-panel :D

frame dry fitup for one of the columns...
    frames-102317_631d117c21c527a31482e9f79928b4fe3f8470ba.jpg
raising the panels... (six per column)

next up: cornices and misc. trim moldings... columns are "scribed" to fit up against the wall, ..which isn't 100 plumb and flat as you can imagine...

I love hand tools, I don't think I'd ever want to do a full raised panel with one.

..yep, it can be a good workout.. i did a total of 14 raised panels for this project, 6 + 6 (columns) + 2 (sides of fireplace) w/ this method, ...i will say the veritas jack rabbet plane (i made a beveled fence for it) works well for this...
