We're in the same boat. Deck boards are serviceable but look faded. Only 5 years max we'll be here. We're using this to coat/paint. It has a texture to it which will be good for us. Ours is north facing and sometimes stays wet for a bit, making it slippery.

We sealed it as it was built it. We sealed EVERYTHING. You could also use composite decking. But that's a little expensive.

Got all our main wall lines up today , verified the dimensions and cross squared the 2 large rectangles formed by the strings

We then added some of the offset wall line strings and started laying plates after I took this pic


FYI , sweeping soil off of bare rock becomes significantly more difficult when it is frozen to the rock

 

I would be a little concerned about frost in the ground when you pour. Frost does weird things to concrete.

 

We won't be pouring for a while and by code we have to powerwash the rock where the concrete will contact it

 

Made some good progress last night. Was up till 11pm installing. Just have a few glass panel doors and shelving to put up and then the cabinets are done.

Why do you have to power wash the rock? Just curious as we dont have to much of that hard stuff down here.

 

To make sure its clear of debris for adhesion to the surface?

The rock has to be free of organics and soil and the rebar and redi rod for the seismic hold downs have to be drilled and grouted or epoxied into the rock

 

Got all our wall strings set up , and all the plates down for the exterior side of the foundation walls

Next week we'll form up the exterior foundation walls then begin drilling and grouting the rebar uprights and seismic hold down redi rod

 

any idea the actual size of that boulder?

I'm assuming the solid rock will be somewhat exposed as the crawl space under the floor joists?

 

No crawl or joists , its getting infilled and will be a heated slab floor

 

How many cubic yards will that take to fill?
