Excessive interior moisture contributes to mould issues

 

I agree...but how often are you really using that fan?...unless you are running a soup kitchen. Here is my setup and I worry about my coffe maker more than my hood.

 

I use my range hood every time I cook just like I use a bath fan every time I shower

 

Honestly probably won't be using it that often. When I cooked at my parents house I rarely used it.

The microwave is on an interior wall.

 

Like I said, it depends on how and what he is cooking. I have only had one microwave hood in my life that was vented outside. I am sure a lot of people here do not have theirs vented outside ...and don't have issue with it.

I agree....but it's kind of a afterthought now.

 

Assuming thats an attic above , pull the screws holding the cabinet above the micro hood , install vent into the attic , reinstall cabinet , then use a proper roof vent for a range hood through the roof , easy if its shingles , more complicated if its metal

 

Are we assuming there isn't a stud right in the middle of that wall? Or are you suggesting going up through the cabinet where it will be seen from above? You need almost the full 141/2 inch bay for that duct work don't you?

 

Yup it's the attic above. Shingle roof that has to get replaced in the next year or so

 

Its unlikely you would see the vent because the cabinets are so close to the ceiling and the ductwork would be at the back of the unit / back of cabinet and you can transition from 3x10 to round

I was saying up through the ceiling / roof

Obviously the actual installation difficulty would be determined by actual site conditions but from a pure best practices stand point , range hoods and exhaust fans should be ducted to the outside

 

I prefer to vent out a wall or soffit if possible, less roof penetrationso the better imo

 

Do you have a flapper adapter that works for a soffit termination ?

 

You are forgetting about trusses or rafters in the way...I believe that the top of the microwave duct is back out 21/2 -3" from the back of the microwave(refer to the specs) find your last truss in front of your cabinets, then measure 16" back. Make sure there are no obstructions.

 

Not for soffit for the stove, which would be nice. Should be something someone makes. I have a customer with a roof unit and while their roof needs to go next year I've been out twice to deal with the roof vent letting water in

 

So that would be worse then letting it re-circulate....I would assume?

 

Bummer , I've done a few roof vents for range and exhaust fans on my builds and we haven't had any issues
