So I spent about 4 hours out at the site today , power washed the stone inside the formwork so we can start buttoning things up on Monday

I like to use materials we already own...
turned two vertical upper kitchen cabinets into horizontal open shelves in our shed.

 

Insulated Concrete Forms

 

Yes not very common in this area, and after they floated away the first time they should have tossed them out. Most of the walls are bowed in one way or another. If it wasn't for the walls the tree that hit the house would have blown right through the master bedroom

 

Almost used them to build my house..there are pro and cons...just like any material. Basically styrofoam you fill with concrete. You get your r value with the foam.

 

Glacier melt goes somewhere.

 

How did you drain the water?....just curious...seems to me, there should be puddles of water.

I agree....that's why I went old fashion concrete block.

 

Washed everything towards the low corners

 

I am less of a fan of superior walls,where they sit on pea gravel and the corners and joints are caulked.

 

Pretty much unheard of to use concrete block for residential foundations here

 

Yup...no seismic problems here...it's cheaper and straightforward...given a good mason. By code they have to be filled depending on the size block you use...I used 12" so it was 64" on center with 1/2 re-bar. I put 3/4" epoxy coated, every 4'. But I got all my re- bar for free, so even my foundation has epoxy coated and I bumped up the size.

 

I do have a problem that maybe stair god could answer. I have no closed stringer on my basement stairs, they were the temporary stairs when I was building the house. I want to add one, but scribing one would be a bitch. Should I cut into my treads with a multi- tool to make them look great? Or am I over thinking not having one?

 

The house across the street was built entirely above grade and back filled. 3000 finished sq. ft. with septic problems during heavy rain And a plummer built it, and got foreclosed, middle school principal owns it now.
