Tile stores usually have way more selection than any big box store

I always buy what my wife and I like...regardless of cost because, I hate looking at things I could have easily spent a little more and had the results I wanted. I know this isn't your forever house but unless you know how long you will be living there..choose what you like.

Any good shop should be able to get you anything Lowe's has plus about 30 other varieties that are similar, varying slightly in shade, size, or material (ceramic, porcelain, stone, etc). I suggest that because it looks like you picked out the thick solid stone stuff from Lowe's and I know how expensive that stuff is!! Find yourself the same look for less and put the savings in your truck or in your pocket. Especially if it's not a forever home. That thick marble stuff is found in super high end homes. Other than that, a buyer will not be expecting it, or willing to pay a premium for it. I normally do a nice field tile with a glass or stone accent. Perfect way to add style without breaking the bank when it's ultimately for resale.

Either way, if you're picky about tile, a tile shop will have wayyyyyy more options than the big boxes at every price range. I personally think a lot of Lowe's and HD tiles look cheap and generic. If you like something there you can either find the same thing for less or a nicer option if your taste (and wallet) prefer.

Also, the big boxes are a complete ripoff for any countertop that's not laminate.

Luckily my fiancé has Simple tastes. Going with a standard white subway tile with a grey grout.

Also, @Cuffs , if you're not doing the installs yourself, I wouldn't recommend having HD or Lowe's do it. I have seen (and redone) some horrible jobs from both...

The giftcards are great if you need to buy in store. Even better is if you can order online for instore pickup. Ebates gives ~2.5% (at least at Lowes) on the order. Plus you can get $50 off 250 coupons pretty easy. Can save a ton of money. I have split orders before to use multiple 50 off 250 coupons. Can really save a bunch of money.

But for tile/countertops/ect theres often better choices and cheaper prices elsewhere.

Got the inlay of the subfloor done yesterday, tongue and groove 2x8s patched back into existing. I'll let it sit for a few days at temp before I start the overlay process for the new flooring.

Infill / backfill essentially complete , just needs a bit of fine tuning inside and final grading outside

Hmm... I did 2000sq ft and ended up with 28 at 4"-5". That's odd.

    2200 x .33 = 726 cuft

    726 divided by 27 = 26.88
