There is an old timer here that has cut a bunch of complex joinery for me , he still figures everything out with a line drawing and a calculator and everything fits

He works by himself in his little shop and he was cutting 33' long 10x16 for me last time , the way he man handles long timbers by himself taught me a lot about moving big material too

I've always enjoyed watching someone who is highly skilled work. Everything fro. A really good bartender that has a good economy of motion, to the guys that deliver our steel doors, and how the carry and move them up stairs. It's amazing what you can learn just from watching. It's also how you spot guys across a site that are struggling with their tasks.

Broke down and purchased a new miter saw. My old one couldn't make a clean, consistent cut due to failing shaft bearings.

    IMG_20170326_1910171.jpg

Used it first thing to start making the ramp to my new shed.

    Nice

Now you need some sawhorses and a plank so you don't have to lay on the ground to use it haha

Front door replaced old steel door didn't work with the new flooring and I didn't want to fuss with cutting it plus adding a threshold extension so did a new fiberglass door

I've got them, I just never get around to setting them up for miter work. About the only time I use the sawhorses is when I'm cutting sheeting with a skill saw.

This is exactly why I just got a miter saw stand with my birthday home depot gift card.

I'm sure it would be nicer on my back to use one, but I'm usually not making more than a few cuts and at that point setting up the rig to make the cuts would take longer than actually making the cuts.

I've got some bigger projects coming up with tax return money that I'll use the saw horses for.

Finished up the roof framing for the back door covered area

Started cutting the glulam rafters this morning , this is the low end detail , 7 1/2" plumb cut with a 37" level cut

We're going to move these rafters to a second pile as I finish cutting them and as they are 37' long and fairly heavy I decided to make a little cart for moving them , its a temporary pared down version of my timber framer friend's steel cart he uses

Made out of a couple No Flat wheelbarrow wheels and some scrap material

Works great , one guy can move them once they are loaded up

Oz, are the rafters 'bird beaked' to sit on the support or are the just sitting across it? Why did the supports have to be so large for those rafters?
(not trying to be a smart arse, just asking as I am curious)

Damnitall, I added my question to your original post.
