Just curious but why the metal posts? Or are they going to be covered by wood? Just seems like such beautiful woodwork then random metal posts.


On another note...is it normal to paint subfloor? Im going to be swapping the carpet to wood (or laminate we will see) and out of curiosity to see what was under the carpet i tore up a small piece in an unused bedroom (also where ill start) and was surprised to see the sub floor was painted white (same color as the trim...not sure on original wall color as its been repainted)

 

Designer wanted steel posts , thats the look he was going for , small posts , big overhang

I've seen this before. Sometimes something horrid contaminates a carpet and seeps into the subfloor, like pet urine or vomit. The smell can never be completely removed, even after putting in new carpets. They end up sealing or replacing the subfloor and that fixes the problem.

I doubt it was to hide anything since it was in a closet corner but ya never know. Especially since i was told it was the original carpet when i bought the house Im guessing its everywhere though. I just had never seen it before but not like I have really looked into it either.

Im just a fan of wood. Once its all painted/sided/landscaped Im sure it will still look great though.

Outside of the skylights thats basically the style of roof the gf and I want when we build our home (years down the road still)

I called around yesterday to every lumberyard and box store for a cut down door. They're all special order.
I have to come up with something before spray foam so it'll all be insulated.

Buy a slab door and cut it down , then make a jamb

 

Footings poured. 5 yards done in about 45 min. We killed it. 6 guys with wheelbarrows.

I was wondering if I could do that. I'll look. I did locate the same siding. The insurance was giving mom runaround. I gave her main number and she was able to get ball rolling. Adjuster coming out next week. The entire front of house needs resheathing and both chimneys are past due. I fixed roof leaks which were rotten decktites.

 

Just shy of 600 sq ft.

 

What are the footing boxes for ? Just to have a finished top for the posts to sit on ?
