Been there done that. Our insurance did cover the repair to the basement. There are companies that will not unless you have a ryder on the policy, Time for a cool mancave.

 

The mould is centered around where anything was leaned up against the wall (cardboard boxes on shelves) and random areas on exterior sided walls only. There is no mould on the ceiling (R40 blown in 3ft high up there).
Tem in the garage was never below 0*C for any length of time, considering the heat coming up through the floor slaband the heat from two car engines cooling off in there must have been enough to keep it all above freezing.
If i ran a vent fan into the attic where i installed rafter vents, I think i would just be throwing all my "free" heat away.
Of course i dont want to risk my family's safety but this is not our last home, we will prob end up selling in a year anyways when i get posted so i am always considering minimal investment for the return.

 

You only get mould if there is excess moisture

You need to address that to address the mould

 

and do not cut a vent from your garage to attic space
especially if you are parking your cars in there

 

I never suggested cutting a vent in anywhere , that was you

If you have surface mould on the drywall, you more then likely have mould on the backside of the drywall too.

 

anyone have used an acrylic tub, vs cast iron...besides cost, anything positives to acrylic tub. anyone have experiences they will share? thanks

Are you talking about a stand alone like a claw foot or a slide in / drop in like for an alcove

 

slide in, with one sided apron. determined that steel tubes are shit and dent too easily. cast iron i wont be able to do alone. acrylic only other option besides cast iron.

 

my biggest concern is with them staining, an issue you experienced. any negatives

 

Never had a staining issue , I've had to deal with scratches made during construction , but that is a fairly easy fix

In my experience acrylic tubs tend to vary in quality of construction and the tub repair guys are a good source of info on which brands they have to repair the most often

 

Acrylic is better choice ,easy to repair ,to an extent. I always bed them in mortar so bottom won't break out. Some sit flat on floor. If you bed it in mortar,don't stand in it when mortar is wet or it'll leave a void under it,and will crack. Just wiggle it.

 

We fill it with water and use low expanding spray foam

 

i was thinkiong of spray foaming the inside voids, so it doesn't echo and sound as hollow. was gonna use mortar for base, but like foam idea
