    Well interesting weekend for me.

First off the toilet in the 2nd bathroom is clogged. Not in the normal poo and toilet paper way. I have no clue how she did it but the gf flushed the toilet and was changing the TP roll and the springy part of the TP holder managed to hit the toilet bowl and go down to who knows where. Cant feel it reaching in. Toilet still flushes just drains slow. More a funny thing than mad about it though :) Im thinking Ill go under and cut the drain pipe and hopefully either push it up and out or be able to pull it down, then just add a simple coupler to put it back together.

Second...the 4 lights in the garage all stopped working. All at once. Had the door open and didn't notice till I went to close it. Only had my small simple 120/220v tester and the fixtures are all getting power. Tried different bulbs with no luck. So thinking the ballast might have gone out. Just weird it was all four all at once. I was already tired and dirty from sand blasting so just said whatever and left it for another day

I already tried the auger method. It didn't work. But also the thing doesn't have much to grab onto either (seeing as its smooth and cylindrical)

Thought of that. But don't want to have to deal with rechaulking the toilet or a new wax ring. I have a large crawl space (its 6ft where the toilet is) so plenty of access below to make the cut and reglue it

I was taught to never caulk a toilet. How else do you know if the ring is leaking?

No clue. Every toilet Ive seen/removed has been caulked though. Quick google search basically says it doesn't matter though (ie some swear you must caulk, others swear you don't, others say caulk but leave the rear open)

We were told to caulk the front and side, leave the rear open for leaks. But I have no idea if that's the "right" way or not. We ended up not caulking our master at all since the previous toilet in there leaked and we wanted to verify our repairs worked.

Good excuse to tear them out and put in fixtures that will easily take LED bulbs.

I just tore out all my basement fixtures. 880 watts originally between all the 40 watt florescent bulbs. Replaced them with 10 simple cheap Leviton ceramic sockets and LED bulbs. Power draw is about 10% of what it was before.

Did the same thing in my garage and put in recessed fixtures between the rafters and 75 watt equivalent LED flood style bulbs. Figured height matters more there, so those allow the lights to be even with the ceiling.

I showed this to her right before bed the other night. She found it hilarious and would periodically burst out laughing when she thought of it while trying to go to sleep. Nice job!

My Mom and Dad came up this weekend. My Dad and I installed the big slide in cabinet, the vanity and mocked in the plumbing. Got it situated so after the quartz top goes in we just have to glue the pieces together.

Because we're using undermount sinks and there are drawers below we used offset drain pipes (quick, shallow return towards the wall right after it exits the sink) to the traps, which are turned sideways flush to the wall. I saw this setup for ADA vanities where a wheelchair can roll under. We still had to notch the back of the middle drawer but we get a lot of space that wouldn't be there otherwise. The top "drawer" is just a tilt out with metal trays - toothbrush, etc...

I can finally see the light at the end of this project!

I'd take you up on that! She found those at Target yesterday for $5 each (you can see them in the first picture on the left). They are long narrow to attach to the inside doors of the large wall cabinet. Only they are too wide by 3/4". We'll take the frames off, mount the glass and add smaller trim to cover the edges. If it doesn't work at least we're not out much $.

Mirrors over the vanity are another thing all together. She has been looking, and looking, but not found what she wants. But that's one of the last things to go in so low priority.

There's a company in Florida that custom builds shower glass doors/partitions amd ships them to you for DIY installation. I haven't gotten local quotes so I don't know if it's worth it, however if you deliver the vanity mirrors you'd be coming this way anyways....

    :D

Truckin along on the bathroom today. Got the electrical done in the wall cabinets. Took me a while to figure out how I was going to surface mount the outlets. I'm getting ready to seal the grout next...

If you have power at all fixtures and no light it sounds like the neutral is off or broken somewhere. Possibly in the breaker panel.

If it were done right, wax ring can last a long time. I've always caulked. Helps sturdy the bowl and easier to clean. Everyone has their own way.
