This is Prolok which has the benefits of standing seam for not having any exposed fasteners but without the need to mechanically roll / fold the seams

Not sure in the correct term, it's used to keep the ice/snow on the roof and not skidding off in one big chunk

I can't tell you how much I despise plumbing. Finally got my vanity sinks plumbed in, water flowing and now NO leaks (there were leaks - aren't there always? - but I fixed them). That was a biatch.

Now I'm installing shower heads and levers. I needed 1/2" brass NPT nipples so I went to my local hardware. They were out of 2 1/2" so I figured "buy 3 and 2 inch, one of those would work". Wrong. Need 2 1/2". So then I'm off to home depot. They don't have NPT, only MIP. WTF is MIP? I ask the plumbing department guy and, you guessed it, he didn't know. So he whips out his phone and Googles it. He says "some guy on this on-line forum says it will work". That does not inspire confidence but what am I going to do? Bought the MIP and installed it. Won't be able to tell if it's leaking or not unless the bottom of the wall gets wet... Also, while sealing the escutcheon plate with silicon the tube ruptured and got all over my hands. Frack.

Finally, got that sorted out and all heads installed so I open up the stops on the Kohler valve to flush the lines out. Come to find out something is wrong with the valve and the lever won't shut the water off completely; the hot side just dribbles even when the lever is turned to off. Google search finds this happens when the pressure mechanism is faulty. Frack.

I'm done for the day. Hopefully when I call Kohler tomorrow they won't give me grief and just send new parts.

Well, the 2" brass nipple for the shower head isn't long enough. I noticed water seeping out where the shower arm meets the wall. Neither 2" or 2 1/2" works. The shower arm doesn't have a flange. With a flange you can hide a gap between the arm and the wall. I need 2 1/4", but no such thing exists. I'm going to see if I can find a flange on line that will work. If not, I'll have to use a different shower head/arm.

Regarding the Kohler valve. After researching last night I am fairly certain the issue is my contractor sweated in the vavle without taking the guts out and the heat damaged the pressure regulator. I called Kohler this morning and to my surprise they just took the model number, my contact info and are shipping out the replacement no charge. No questions about how it was installed, when/where it was purchased or needing a receipt. I'm impressed. To be honest, I do think it was damaged on install, plus, I bought it approx 2-3 years ago (project stalled as other stuff came up).

So now FedEx will have the parts here later this week and I'm off to find a flange/escutcheon that will hopefully work.

The shower kits I have installed (3) every single one of them I tried following the directions and dimensions but NONE of them installed per their dimensions for pipe lengths. I just came to understand that I will be doing RE-work of most of the fittings due to leaks or sizing errors.

I don't know how people install this particular style of shower head. As mentioned, there is no flange to cover any gap. The brass nipples used to connect them have tapered threads and only screw on so far (maybe 3 rotations). They have to be screwed down fairly tight to prevent leaks, so my margin to #1 get the shower head finished in the right direction i.e. pointing down, #2 get it tight enough to not leak, and #3 have a small enough gap to cover with a flange (or in the case of this particular style have a gap small enough to calk and not be noticeable) is proving difficult.

I can only see 2 options - forgo this shower head or be creative. I may try a cover plate used for the tub filler. It has the right dimensions to work, however it doesn't slide over the shower spout but rather sits like a base. So i need to install the 2 1/2 brass nipple, see how big the gap is and if the plate covers that distance. Or comes close enough to calk. Ugh.

No flange - just flush to the wall.
    IMG_9215.jpg

Maybe use one of these as a base plate to cover the gap when using a longer nipple?

The plumber is speaking. Pay attention.

First thing I did at my "new" house is tear out the fucking piece of shit Kohler Avatar kitchen sink faucet from 2006ish. It is basically several seamlessly integrated design flaws. Installed a Delta Essa, and it's great.
