Thanks. We use the zCounterforms. They attach to the backerboard and then snap off once the concrete is cured (one time use). They have a bunch of profiles you can choose. Ours is the half bullnose. It's about $200 for 8 eight-foot pieces and 6 eight-foot pieces for against the wall (I also used the back wall pieces for framing the sink knockout and the stovetop frame).

Very nice job. I guess I miss it. How did you get a nice finish on the cement ? How did you get straight lines on the glass tile ? Mine came out a little wavy. Thanks for any reply or link.

 

The concrete is polished with a wet sander. Then we sealed it with a wet look sealer. The color is Buddy Rhodes Ultra Fine pigment in "coal".

It was a lot of work. Fortunately, we had four people working on it: me, my wife, my step-son, and his girlfriend. My stepson helped me with the mixing. It's done in a tub with a large paddle mixer and really gives a good workout.

Nice to have family that can actually help. Sometimes I have to go back and straighten out the "help". Easier to just do it myself. LOL

Our master bedroom wall is opposite of that and really takes a beating during afternoon summers. What a difference this makes.

Got the vent hooked back up and the induction cooktop hooked up. My wife hates electric heat because it takes so long. We were planning on running gas but then I started reading about induction cooktops. We had a 220v cooktop prior but it was an old Thermador from the 1970s. This is a GE 36". My wife is amazed. We had to replace all our pots and pans to work with it (needs to be magnetic) but it was worth it. The cooktop heats up incredibly fast (about 10 seconds and I could feel heat from the pan). My wife said it sears well and very evenly. She says it's probably better than gas. Here she is cooking up some fajitas:

 

I've been workin on some projects. Put a new roof on a couple weekends ago. House was built in the early 70s. 1/2" plywood on 24" centers. I resheeted the whole roof with 5/8" and clips. Pewter gray architectural shingles. New siding, soffit, and windows are next.

 

Did you go over the 1/2" ?

 

No I tore it off. It was delaminated and really weak. I don't know how I never fell through it.

 

I would like to know more about this. We are looking into these as well since we are on an electric stove top as well. What's the cost approx to buy all new cookware? Over all experience? Was also debating putting in gas line, but this is easier. We don't know anyone who has one installed though.

 

I think it's better than gas. It doesn't uses as much electricity as a standard electric cooktop and like I mentioned, the heatup is almost instantaneous. Plus, the heat will always be even since it is the pan heating up and not the cooktop. Whoever cooks will be overjoyed.

It's super easy to install if you already have 220v to your cooktop. You'll need a 50 amp circuit for the 36" top. I believe it's a 40 amp circuit for the 30".

For the cookware, just look on the box of the unit. It should have an induction coil symbol on it. We bought our pans at Ikea and Ross, so they don't have to be expensive. I believe we bought a 7 piece set at Ikea for less than $100. Just take a magnet with you when you go to buy pans (my wife checked with the magnetic clip that keeps her purse closed). If the magnet sticks to the base, it will work. Some pans have an aluminum base for even heating. Those will not work.

Cast iron pans will work.
