One gain my wife noted last night is food spills don't cook onto the surface making for easy clean-up. Since the induction method heats the pan rather than the surface, it doesn't get as hot as an electric heating element would. The only heat on the surface is what's transferred from the heated pan back onto the surface glass.

One petty gripe that some have complained about, the cheaper pans can create a buzzing sound. I've heard it with the Ikea pans but I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't read about it first.

Putting in holes for the countertop wouldn't be a big deal if one wanted it that way. They sell pre-made rubber hole knockouts that you can place in the form and remove after the concrete has cured.

Cleanup up aspect sounds great. Buzzing sound can only be heard in area of pans? Pots? Or is loud. Would u say is equivalent to sound gas makes burning under pressure? Doesn't seem like would be major issue though. We are doing our kitchen, end 2013 early 2014. So we have looking randomly while in home stores.

Yes, it's in the area of the pan. The buzzing is subtle. Like I said, I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't read about it. It sounds like a faint electronics hum. Kind of like you might hear with florescent lighting. From what I've read, it's from the cheaper pan flexing.

Here's a site I found while researching the induction cooktops:
    http://theinductionsite.com/proandcon.shtml

This image illustrates the cleanup. The egg cooks in the half pan but not on the surface of the induction unit.

My Pops is about to shingle the house and garage and asked me if I know anything about what shingles to get. I said nope, but I can ask some people who do. I'm not sure what info you need but it's a small home in NE South Dakota where there's lot's of snow in the winter and they have an old home that doesn't heat or cool well so he likes the idea of ones that help keep the house cool.

IF anyone posts up some tips before we head to Menards, that'd be great. If not, I can say I asked :D thanks, guys.

Architectural shingles are def the way to go. And I'd say a lighter color. If there are trees over the house consider a copper strip under the top row of shingles. It'll kill any algae or moss that tends to grow on shingles. Zinc coated copper will do the same.

Or get shingles with Algae block in them

Also use a continuous ridge vent

I'll pass this along as well.

Only thing is we live in a small town that only has a Menards and while my Pops and I will be helping he sort of "hired" a guy from work to do the job overall. My parents also live on a very humble income so I'm not sure what we will have available to us or what their budget is. I just know a guy from work is going it and Pops asked me to find out what kind of shingles he should get.

    Thanks again.

They're based in Oregon and have been around since the mid 50's , not sure about their product distribution

    I hate GAF
