Meanwhile , back at the ranch ....

We're actually moving forward framing some walls , front of building is actually now supported on the foundation and once we get the walls on the opposite side of the house done we will have lateral restraint in both directions , allowing us to remove all the temporary wind bracing and complete the framing

We lost a bunch of time at the beginning after we discovered some unknown issues with the existing framing and foundation but from this point on everything should go fairly smoothly , the only weird timeline step still to do is once we frame and sheet the walls on the opposite end to these ones , the building will fully be down on the new foundation which will allow us to remove not only the exterior wind bracing but also the LVL jacking beams from under the existing floor , once those come out we will lay a vapour barrier and pour our skim coat before we get anymore floor framing in our way , once thats done we can frame all the new floor system and exterior and interior walls so basically back to normal job progression at that point .

I used Ben Moore Advance paint in Satin on trim and it levels very nicely without additives. Like others have mentioned, use good paint, use good brushes/rollers. Go to an actual paint store and they will point you in the right direction.

I ended up borrowing an airless sprayer from my father in law. It's definitely moving faster, but it's so messy.

Any idea on these? Axe appears to be a true temper. I need to knock more rust to see if there are any identifiable markings. Not a clue on the digging tool. No edge at all.

The eye and edge on the axe head dont look too beat up. If it cleans up alright you should be able to use it

The second one is an old adze head

At my in-laws in Chicago at Christmas, the house was always freezing. They kept the thermostat low, but it didn't seem right. Oh, hey, nice placement of the table lamp right under the thermostat! Let's keep that lamp on all the time regardless of room occupancy, too! I moved it over a ways and routinely turned it off. And turned up the fucking heat. It was around 8-14f while we were there, and negative 20s with wind chill at night.

The axe is straight, no dings in the edge. Should clean up nice. I am going to soak it in vinegar for a couple of days.

The adze head I found in a dry creek bed while tracking a deer that a buddy shot. No clue on how old it is.

Looks more like a mattock to me, a digging tool. I think an adze has more curve to the blade so you don't hit your work piece with the head/handle. My guess anyway.

That might explain why there's no edge on it. I've only seen two-sided mattocks, but I can count on one finger how many mattocks I've owned

Lol, we blocked our thermostat with our tv. It was mounted near a corner and the TV sat angled in the corner. It wasn’t too bad on the thermostat unless you had the TV on for a while. Our Furnace was 30 years old when we moved in so about 2 weeks after we moved in, we replaced that and I ran a new wire and relocated the thermostat to the other side of the wall in the hall way. Was a better location, however one of the upstairs runs is right next to it, so the drywall gets a little warm and cool when the furnace and AC is running. Might slightly effect the reading. I guess I could put a foam backer on it to help isolate it a little better

I think #2 is a mattock as well

So it should be hung on a straight handle, similar to a pick axe?

Thanks! I guess I should start soaking these in vinegar to start rust removal. don't want to hit them too hard with a grinder.
