Wife couldn't see a difference in 2 different tile patterns. The dog plopped down on the 1/3 tile pattern and that's what we chose lol. I prefer this one over the 1/2 tile pattern anyhow. grout lines are going to be 1/8 inch and color matched.

I played plumber today to the pool. Our salt water element caught on fire and made a mess. So I had to cut off all the bad 2 inch pipe and remove the chlorinator in order to use the pool. SO for a few weeks it will be a freshwater pool.

Anyone have any experience with gas pipe?

I need to replace my water heater so I'm taking this opportunity to start getting natural gas appliances. I already have the gas meter set and ready to go. I just need to run pipe to the water heater and then install a gas water heater. I also want to set myself up to replace my dryer with a gas dryer and it is right next to the water heater, as well as the furnace and stove.

I've been looking at the csst flex line with the hopes of just running a piece of black pipe into the basement and attach a manifold to it, then run flex line to each appliance whenever I replace one.

The flex line sold at Home Depot is available in 1/2" or 3/4" and from some research online it looks like 1/2" is sufficient for any of my appliances. BUT the manifolds are also only available in 1/2" or 3/4" so I could have five 1/2" lines fed off one 1/2" trunk line. To me this sounds like a bad idea and I think I want atleast a 1" trunk line feeding into the manifold.

I'm going to do some more research but I thought id put this out here to see if anyone has experienced this issue and how they may have solved it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Edit:

Called one of the csst companies to ask them and they suggested building my own manifold out of black pipe and fittings and then running my lines from there.. So I guess I've got this figured out but I'd still like to hear if anyone has any experience with this.

Any pipe that moves natural gas should be galvanized pipe. For safety if for nothing else. If you blow up your house , insurance will not cover your loss. so leave it to the local gas company.

Not to be rude, but if I have to get permits to do the work and then get it inspected afterwards, how would I blow up my house and why wouldn't insurance cover it?

And the local gas company doesn't do interior work.. That's like calling the local electric company when you need to add a ceiling fan.

Utilities take care of everything up to the meter and the home owner is responsible for everything from there in. The town requires permits and inspections regardless of whether I do the work or I hire a licensed plumber. And when a plumber gives a quote of $1500 to run 25' of pipe and another $2500 to replace a $600 water heater, I'm sure as hell not paying that when I can do the work (safely) myself.

I always used black pipe for gas not galvanized. When I did my DHW I checked PSE&G for pipe sizing & it was inspected - no problem with my work. The inspector was actually pretty friendly - you may have a different experience.

Thanks. My town's inspector seems very helpful. I talked to him on the phone to find out some info before deciding to tackle this project myself.

You just used black pipe and pipe dope?

Yep. Sleeve it with PVC going thru the wall. My inspector likes 2 C a drip leg. Good luck.

The City or county requires permits for a reason. If you were to have agas leak after you did the install I would bet you my house that since you are not a Licensed Contractor the policy would not cover the damage. Call your home owners and ask them what they think! I could be wrong but I doubt it. Make sure you have a mild soap spray bottle to check for leaks. Good luck and keep us posted.

The city requires permits so they know what is going on and to inspect work to make sure it is to code. In PA being a licensed contractor doesn't mean you have any certifications. The licensing is for consumer protection and insurance validation reasons. So I dont see why doing the work yourself to code and passing the inspections is any big deal. The only difference being if there is a problem when you do your own work you have to deal with it.

Got the tile down. Now we clean it off and grout. One of the advantages of the wife helping is she stated, "let's never do tile again." Man, that's a lot of work.

I'd wait for the grout to dry before putting the baseboards back on. The grout I used I needed to wait 24 hours to clean the little excess grout that was on the tiles off. And something like 48 hours before it was ready for heavy traffic.
