That looks like wire used for the photo eyes and push button switch which is basically thermostat wire covered with a brown vinyl coating...

yup, it's the wiring for the eyes and remotes. Could stand to be dressed a bit nicer... but it's a garage. I don't intend to mess with it

Almost done getting the garage setup for the time being. Always used harbor freight retractable air hoses and extension cords but they have given out over the years and looking for something that will hold up a little better. I'm super limited outlets (only 3 and 2 are 3 feet from each other) so the extension cord will most be used to power small power tools, maybe the floor drill press and band saw. Anybody have some suggestions?

A picture of how it is right now

And a picture mid renovation (only one before paint). Fixed the drywall and textured painted it. Put up a wall to finish off the laundry room. Attic access. Cleaned the floors of carpet glue and old epoxy. Made some cabinets added lights. Lots of other stuff I'm sure

I have one of these and find it very handy. I can get power anywhere in the garage, then retract in back up and out of the way. You could mount it on the ceiling above an outlet, then run a short cord from the outlet to the reel. If you don't want HF, other retailers sell them.

If you can patch drywall you can put in some more receptacles :gossip:
Or you could get lucky and be able to pull wires thru the attic and down thru the top plate

Plan was to run some additional outlets through surface conduit since I forgot to add more when I was cutting up the wall. Plan is to add atleast 2 more. 1 in the ceiling for the retractable cord and one on the far wall by the work bench. Just seeing if anyone had good luck with a certain brand. the 3 harbor freight cords I used in my dads garage the plugs wont stay together and the stop in the retractor broke so have to use a clamp.

    X2.

I only had 2 120V receptacles in my garage, so it always, always sucks to have to power anything. I didn’t want to spend a grip on a cord reel, so I was shopping those HF reels. Turns out, Home Depot has an HDX branded reel that’s identical (different color, same manufacturer) as to HF and all the miscellaneous brand cord reels of the same flavor - and it was the lowest priced. Pretty sure a full $10 less than HF when I bought mine. I’ve had it for about a year now (maybe a year and a half), no issues or complaints. Makes a lot of difference just in convenience alone. I’ve since added an extra outlet, but the reel is central in the garage and fastened to the ceiling.

    Definitely recommend.

I stripped my garage and laundry/workroom down to the studs, so I was able to run outlets just about everywhere.

The only limit was on the one garage wall where I wanted to keep the stud bay open so I could install wire shelves for additional storage. The wall opposite has several and I was able to squeeze one in next to the big garage door. This is where the reel come in handy. I hung it from the ceiling right in front of where the car is. Very helpful for lights and things when working on it.

Almost every location where I installed outlets I made them 4 plex, and I put a fair amount in (several circuits). Double behind the washer dryer then a quad on the wall above.

Painted the garage (Weathershield Steely Grey) and got it organized some. Next on the to-do list is to epoxy the floor and figure out the leak on the air compressor(I think it’s at the regulator.)

Edit: flag is there because it was raining out.

I have one, and will probably pick up a large box to keep track of my random tools that didn’t come in cases. At least for organization purposes. Right now they’re kind of anywhere.. and everywhere.

I have 4 of the largest size , great for transporting loose tools & fasteners to jobs . Also good for keeping fasteners dry when we are working in the rain

    These ones , the 400XL
